1. Good! That was pretty heinous.

Thank whoever for Olberman. He's my sanity, along with Stewart and Colbert. Studies show that oppressing women causes most of the world's ills. So stop, already!

2. I expect to see more examples of Huckabee's crazy notions in the weeks to come
Back to the drawing board for the Republicans.

4. Between Giulliani on MTP and this from Huckabee they could be down to Tancredo
....before it's over.

6. Maybe it would be better to wait until Friar Huck is the nominee
of the party before bringing out more of these stories. I'm sure that we've just scratched the surface of his nuttiness.

3. Why do they always leave out the next verse?
Yes, Paul says wives are to submit to their husbands as the Church does to Christ, but then the next verse is "Submit ye one to another." Obviously the point was for each to balance the other and submit to each other in love.

5. Did Huckabee say the entire passage?
Or did he just go for the wife submitting part?

10. The marriage statement he endorsed did.
They often do, too, and it's a bit annoying.

11. Why have the first part at all then?
Why say wives have to submit to their husbands? If the point is mutual submission why say wives must submit? It makes no sense what so ever..

13. It first starts with saying husbands need to be as Christ.
Christ died for the Church and sacrificed His needs on a regular basis for His followers. So, if husbands are to be like Christ, they are to sacrifice their needs for their wives. Wives then are to submit in love. Then they are to submit one to another. Basically, the entire passage means that both husbands and wives are to put their spouse's needs above their own in love.

That's not how it's interpreted most of the time, though. *sigh*

14. Christ was a Jew, what Church did he die for?
If there ever was a man such as Christ he certainly did not die for some Church. He died for blasphemy against the Church and I find it very hard to believe he advocated that the wife be submissive to her husband..The Old Testiment certainly said such stuff but Christ brought about a whole New Testiment in which everything was different from what had been the accepted way..

15. Christian theology says that Christ has a relationship with the Church.
It goes back to the Song of Solomon in the OT. Christ sacrificed Himself for all of Creation, true, and to settle the blood-debt from the old covenant. In doing that, He created the Church--his apostles became the new Church's leaders, and his followers became the new Church. That's why we say He died for the Church as shorthand. :)

16. "The Church" refers to God's people
In a broad sense, Christians believe (at least according to the Nicene Creed) that all Christians are members of the Body of Christ, or "The Church"

In this usage, where Christ died for his Church, it means that Christ died for all of us people who believe in Him, not the First Presbyterian Church on the corner.
