**YOUR HELP NEEDED NOW** Don't Let More Cuts To Programs Happen!**
The U.S. House of Representatives Will Vote on Compromise Year-End Funding Bill on Tuesday, December 11; the Senate later in the week.

The Bill Must Have a Veto-Proof Majority to Prevent Further Cuts to Human Needs Programs
You are needed to play a crucial role: a voice for human needs. Congress is negotiating now to secure enough votes to enact funding for most federal domestic programs. If they do not get enough votes to override another veto by the President, cuts will get deeper. Please call your Representative and Senators to tell them more of their constituents will lose nutrition, housing, home energy, and other vital assistance unless they vote for the omnibus spending bill.

Call your U.S. Representative and Senators' offices toll-free: 1-888-245-0215

Please call by Tuesday, Dec. 11- First, ask to be connected to your Representative's office. Then call back twice - once for each Senator.

Message to deliver: I am a constituent and I urge Rep./Sen. ___ to vote for passage of the Omnibus appropriations bill the week of Dec 10. I want you to protect people who need assistance with food, housing, energy, health care, and other vital services from deeper cuts.

Background: The House will take up a bill on Tuesday combining all unfinished appropriations for FY 2008, including Labor-Health and Human Services-Education, nutrition for pregnant women, infants and children (WIC), and housing assistance. The Senate is expected to take up the bill later in the week. In order to win over enough Republican votes to overcome a Presidential veto, the Democratic leadership is expected to cut $10.6 billion from its previously approved total - approximately splitting the difference between Congress' funding and the President's. At this point, this bill represents the high-water mark for the programs we care about. We need a veto-proof majority. The President has already threatened to veto the compromise bill and has refused to negotiate.

The Consequences if the Omnibus Bill is not Veto-Proof: Congress will be forced to cut further until either the President signs the bill or there are enough votes to override his veto. This means that things will get worse for low-income people and the communities they live in. Every Member of Congress voting against the Omnibus bill is voting for the President's priorities: sharp reductions in home energy aid as energy prices climb, cuts in child care, Head Start, housing assistance, education, and nutrition aid.

Please call your Members of Congress and encourage others to do the same.

Thank you!

3. Great post, Bobbie!
Edited on Fri Dec-07-07 06:54 PM by brer cat
It is so important this year with much higher food and energy costs, and so many without health care.

The cost of *'s war has been the soul of America.

edit to add: Recommended!

19. Yes, it's worse enough yet!!! I've been homeless for 2 years now, and no end in sight.
What does it take, folks?

I keep hearing that Dems care about poverty, yet here is a great way to show that caring, and what happens??????

Thanks for keeping it kicked, Cerridwen!!

22. THank you. Good to "see" you, too! Many DUers don't *like* my 'oneryness"

To tell you the truth, I give up. Look at how important this message is, and look how few can be bothered.

Yet, when I post about how "liberals" don't care about poverty, I consistently get shot down.

Have any ideas why this just doesn't matter to people????

This not only makes me angry, it makes me just give up.

:wtf:

23. You're persistent, you keep on message, and you don't back down.
I swear I've read many posters here WANT that in their Democratic representatives so I'm not sure why, when faced with exactly what they want, they seem "bothered" by it.

Maybe they only want that in people wearing $6,000 Armani suits or who only hold *other people's* feet to fire rather than their own?

I'm reminded of people who move from California to get away from regulation then pitch a fit when their neighbor tries to install their septic system over the top of the Californian's water system. They don't want to be regulated, they just want to regulate others.

I'm not sure poverty doesn't matter to "liberals" but I do think it scares the crap out of them; depending on their current economic outlook. I've also read a couple of posts where the poster has said they don't see a problem so their must not be one. Oy. My dogs are like that; out of sight, out of mind. Very scary way to NOT see the world.

Anyhoo, I have some ideas that I'm trying to get together for a post. I'm not sure it'll answer your questions but the responses ought to be enlightening.

26. "the poster has said they don't see a problem so their must not be one."
Yes, indeed---I've seen those too, and nastier ones.

I want HONEST answers to WHY this doesn't matter.

Seriously.

I'm tired of the silly discounts... I want HONEST answers!

Can't people see how much this hurts poor people to be shoved under the nearest rug?

15. They don't want to know. Let's keep this in their faces.
Check out the thread by Donsu on the coming collapse of America. The conspirator admits to the plan and how they've been at it for over 40 years, and still the sheep deny it.:eyes:

I haven't the time to search for it (and sometimes searches don't show the thread you're looking for)

Although, I gotta say... right now, I'm not feeling bad about the muddleclass going down..... that's what it's going to take for them to "get it"!!!

31. To be honest, especially when I see the lack of responses to this ACTION,
I welcome a "collapse" of the country.

That's what it will take for the muddleclass, Dem and Republican alike, to GET IT about poverty!

I don't feel good about feeling that way, or saying that, but that's what I've come to.

I'm sick of being ignored.

subsidized day care?

Show me that it matters.
