A man awaiting federal sentencing for selling cocaine to former state Treasurer Thomas Ravenel was back in federal custody Wednesday following his arrest on a charge he struck a police officer just days after he reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors.
Michael Miller, who pleaded guilty last month to federal drug charges, was free on bail when he was arrested at a Waffle House in Mount Pleasant early Nov. 16. An officer responding to an argument found a drunk Miller passed out inside the restaurant, according to a police report. When the officer escorted Miller outside, he "jerked his arm away, turned towards me and struck me in the nose with the palm of his left hand," according to the police
Miller also took a swing at the cab driver and spit at officers while being transported to the Charleston County Detention Center, the report said.
Ravenel, a former rising star in the Republican Party, has also pleaded guilty to a federal cocaine charge and is awaiting sentencing.
