Since Max Max libertarianism is a guaranteed disaster I don't foresee any party espousing that philosophy as having a good chance at remaining in power, but it would be four years without continued or additional military conflict.

I fear some of this WOULD happen, yes!!! Not because Ron Paul as an individual could cause all this by himself; but because his election with the support of some progressives WOULD mean that liberals had stopped multi-tasking, and were prepared to give up the social and economic gains of the last 100 years, because of treating the war as an issue that overrides everything else. I think that progressive flirtation with the likes of Paul is in a way more dangerous than Paul himself.

And the abandonment by liberals of the fight for social and economic justice might spread internationally - American movements often do.

Of course the war MUST be stopped. But not by destroying all that is most precious in modern democracy. The Right are prepared to destroy civil liberties for the sake of the 'war on terror'. Should the Left be prepared to be complicit in the destruction of all that we have fought and worked to build over the decades - much of which is still so fragile - for the sake of opposing the war? We can oppose the war without that!!!!

It's foolish to sing this puke's praises just because one agrees with his foreign policy. With right wing libertarian nutjobs like ron paul... rape is still rape. Pukes in any flavor are either for the rape and pillaging of foreign countries, or their own country. The rape and pillaging remain constant. And yet, as progressives, liberals or wherever on the political spectrum you may be - you can't possibly believe a trade-off of victims is a sane policy.

30. i would like a little chapter and verse, myself. i agree with you,

but must admit that factually, i know rather little about him. there is a little cabal of young voters in my hood here, friends of my son's, who are infatuated. i am glad that they are paying attention, and that they are outraged, and want to vote for someone who is speaking out loudly. we have had some interesting conversations.
but aside from my general frustrations with the whole concept of libertarian government, one of the world's great oxymorons, i don't really have a lot of red meat for them. i know it is out there, and i could look it up. i just haven't had the time, and i know that lots of folks here can do it without breaking a sweat. especially about racial issues, as the leader of this little pack is a mixed race kid. (folks are big obama supporters.)
