Ron Paul fans: Honestly, please explain to me...
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 05:41 PM by Mike03
What issues other than his position on the Iraq war do you agree with Mr. Paul on? Are you aware he wants to cancel social security, privatize the ownership of our national parks and permit logging in places like Yosemite and Yellowstone? He wants to undo the New Deal. He opposes a woman's right to choose.

And please don't tell me you support him "because he's been consistent" or "speaks from the heart."

Hitler was consistent. A lot of terrible politicians have been consistent. George Wallace spoke from the heart. Nixon did too. Pol Pot certainly was consistent.

Let's talk ISSUES other than Iraq.

Also, do you have any educated theories about why Mr. Paul opposes the war in Iraq? It's not on moral grounds, is it?

2. Why so much interest in Ron Paul?
Why do we have to see thread after thread of this. I don't see threads that say...I love Ron Paul. It was a waste to even address this. To me you should stand up and say what you are really thinking. What is your motive here?

3. Maybe because we can choose the threads we want to participate in
and skip those we don't?

He asked a very valid question.

If it doesn't interest you, you still kicked it--and pissed on others who might be interested.

8. Blame Kucinich for giving Ron Paul more credibility than he deserves
RP is right on the war and a couple other things, HORRIBLE on everything else.

12. Kucinich is 100 % consistent in his thinking about what this
country needs to do to reclaim our Constitution. None, I will repeat none of our other Dem candidates address this. Without the Constitution and without the 'Patriot' act repeal we are dead in the water as citizens. IMO this Ron Paul thing is a distraction that has been blown up here. I ask why? I ask why so many here are willing to vote for a corporate Dem who will not represent the people?

16. "If Kucinich isn't nominated we are DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!"
Sorry, if that is what you are saying, I don't buy it. All of the candidates have goods and bads, even Saint Dennis.

4. excellent OP, Mike
I suspect that most people admire/like him because of his anti-Iraq war position and his anti-Patriot Act vote.

5. he reason Ron Paul opposes the iraq war is because
he is a libertarian, and as such opposes government "intrusion" in many areas of public life. He favors privatization of national parks and ending social secirity for the same reason. He would pare down the size of government to a bare minimun, or so he thinks. I believe there would be rioting in the streets if he tried to implement many of his beliefs. Big business would run amok without government restraints of any kind. The minimum wage would be rescinded and people would be working for pennies an hour. Senior citizens would suddenly be without their monthly checks and many would be out in the streets, literally and figuratively.

7. He's cuddly!
I don't support Paul either, but he's the most honest and decent person in the Republican race. Huckabee has been charming, but there have been reports that he's a bastard off camera.

Reports that Paul is a racist, based mainly on a single article he wrote, are mistaken. The article was meant to be tongue-in-cheek and he regrets how it came out. My wife was good friends with one of Ron Paul's daughters in high school. Her family was friends with the Paul family.

Yes, he's an extremist Libertarian, but he's genuine about what he says he is.

10. I read the article and I think for myself.
Y'know, I like my Republican neighbor and all, but I'd never vote for him after he told me what he thought of my son's Hispanic friend.

"He's cuddly!" You're kidding, right?

Geez! :)

I'm not kidding about the other stuff. He is a nice guy. I really don't care what you read. I take my personal experience over your reading comprehension. That's just the way it is.

Has he asked them to remove the link from their site to his?

21. Don't know, don't care
My wife is no longer close to the Paul's so I'm not in a position to answer any of the recent questions.

She knew his family when the supposedly "racist" article came from. I'm not going to get into a pissing contest over her personal experience (which I trust) and whatever the hell it is that you have.

Just look at the bashing and guilt-by-associate that's being done to whatever candidate you like and figure out why I'm not going to bother to answer to bullshit like that.

Think what you want. The guy is not racist nor is he anti-gay or anti-woman. He is anti-choice, but that's not anti-women. Women do other things besides reproduce. Really, look it up on Wikipedia.

This isn't Free Republic, and shills for a corporatist theocratic misogynist homophobic far-right nutjob shouldn't be welcome on DU.
