Anyone ever met a rightwing deadhead? I'm a head myself, and I know folk from all across the spectrum.
An interesting bunch to say the least.

18. Don't underestimate the drugs, man
20 years ago, I was hanging out at a Deadhead campground and everyone was too blasted to work the boom box, so I popped in a Slayer tape, and they were all like:

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :bounce: :bounce: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

It was weird, man.

24. Worst people in the world
I spent four days camping out in the desert with a group of Deadheads in the mid-'80's.

They were the most narcissistic, self-righteous assholes I have ever encountered in my life.

Freepers have nothing on those self-flagellating dickheads.

Jerry Garcia deserved better followers despite being a mediocre guitar player. At least he seemed like a decent guy.

I once met four people who had their heads up their asses, who made idiotic statements around Jerry Garcia's supposed lack of talent and all sorts of inane fucking generalizations about "deadheads".

All of them had really bad skin and serious body odor.

55. No generalizations there
Re-read, my friend.

I have no axe to grind with Jerry, he was a better guitar player than me. Mediocre means not bad.

I was just conveying my experience, which was that these Deadheads were rude, insensitive, and self-righteous.

It was you who lapsed into personalized attacks.

For the record, my skin is fine but I might have body odor because I just got off work. I'm pretty sure I don't have my head up my ass, either.

You just reinforced the stereotype yourself, "dude". :(

Now climb down off that high horse before ya git bucked off. :)

56. The implication I took from your post was that you were talking about "deadheads"
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 07:07 PM by impeachdubya
Not just "these four deadheads I once met"

I'm glad you were saying it was these four particular people you had the misfortune of camping with- who happened to be into the dead- who were, as you put it, "rude, self-flagellating", etc. as opposed to trying to make some sort of silly, lame blanket slam at Deadheads. I'm met self-described "deadheads" who were assholes, too. Sucky people sometimes like good music and vice-versa. I've met people who like the Ramones who were shitwits and people who like the Osmonds who are the salt of the Earth. I've met R.E.M. fans who are rabid Republicans. Go figure.

If you're not trying to make a point about "deadheads" in general, then my bad. I misunderstood.

As far as Jerry's guitar playing being "mediocre".. I think one could make a decent case for Hendrix being better, but that's as far as I would go down the scale towards "not bad". But, aesthetic appreciation is nothing if not subjective.

I would have much preferred that fewer people not-really-into-the-Dead had showed up at the shows, frankly. Would have made the scene better for those of us who really did appreciate it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadhead#Celebrity_Heads

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8063563 (scroll way down to entry of 10/14/05)

Q: A few months ago, on the night of the latest Harry Potter book's release, you and Rachel and the other guest were talking about other things that had been worth waiting for, and you'd said you'd waited in line for rock concert tickets. I'm curious: who'd you wait in line for? What kind of music do you like? Who are some of your favorite bands? Sorry it's totally irrelevant to everything, but I've been wondering this for a while.
— Barrie

A: I'm not ashamed to admit it: I like the Grateful Dead, and have since childhood. Phil Lesh, the longtime bassist for the band, is coming to New York soon and we're hoping to have him on. Stay tuned.

Yeesh. Now I'm wondering if some of the more unsavory rumors about Phil's politics might actually be true. :puke:

edit: Imagine if Tucker and Coultergeist had hooked up at a show... y'know, we have no proof that they didn't... :scared: :scared: :scared:

drive SUV's their dads got their spoiled asses. On the back you'll see "W" stickers right alongside Dave Matthews Band, Phish, or Dead stickers. They don't even realize the musicians they adore are all against what "W" stands for. But then again they have never had to question too deeply as mom and dad covered all the bases for em. Just take a drive down any college town frat row and see this paradx for yourself. I've even met one's who loved Pink Floyd and had no idea what the lyrics are about. 40. Who is John Perry Barlow?
Wiki says he was a Cheney campaign manager :scared: .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Perry_Barlow#Biography

He is a former chairman of the Sublette County Republican Party and served as campaign manager for Dick Cheney during his 1978 Congressional campaign. By the early 2000s, Barlow was unable to reconcile his ardent libertarianism with the prevailing neoconservative movement and "didn't feel tempted to vote for Bush;" after an arrest for possession of a small quantity of marijuana while traveling, he joined the Democratic Party and publicly committed himself to outright political activism for the first time since his spell with the Republican Party. Barlow has subsequently declared that he is a Republican. He has also claimed on many occasions to be an anarchist.

He's also been involved with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Quite the interesting character, one I'd certainly like to have a beer (or whatever :smoke: ) with. I mean, really, a Republican anarchist?!

One of Dick Cheney's campaign managers, Republican county chairman, friend of Grover Norquist. Bush-Cheney pretty much cured him of the notion that Republicans would deliver freedom nirvana, though. He was for Kerry in a "the fucking house is on fire" kind of way last election.
