More fires in California: Stay safe DUers

<snip>
California wildfires spread quickly Saturday, destroying at least 35 Malibu homes and forcing the evacuation of some 500 residences in three communities.

The blaze began shortly after 3:30 a.m. near Malibu Lake and engulfed nearly 900 hectares in five hours, Los Angeles County fire Capt. Mike Brown told The Associated Press.

The fires, which are feeding on brush and trees along Malibu ravines and hills, are being fueled by the hot dry Santa Ana desert winds.

"We're at the mercy of the winds right now," Brown said.

Gusts reached up to 100 kilometres per hour in some mountain passes over night.

I know humans pick up the pieces but surely you leave a part of your being in those ashes.

Good luck California...over here in AZ, we feel your pain with every fire.

So sorry they are flaring up again....

Please, stay safe.

(We are terribly windy here today with 18% humidity- high for us.)

8. The "Witch" Fire Almost Got My Brother's House
Lots of multi-million dollar homes burnt in that fire...looks like the same is happening in Malibu. A couple of lessons he learned from his experience. First...make sure all important papers and other valuables that don't have to be in the house are kept in a safe deposit box (preferably far away from any fire-prone areas), have a fireproof safe in the house for whatever valuables you can't move and always be prepared that you'll not only need to evacuate at a moment's notice, but to keep an emergency kit packed...including a week's worth of clothes, bottled water, snacks, pillow & blanket and a cheap emergency cellphone.

While its horrible, it's also nature doing what its thing...my hopes are the damages are limited and the winds shift.

Be safe my SoCal brothers and sisters...

11. I'll Pass On Both Thanks...
Glad you survived your brush with the rain and winds recently.

While I love warm weather, I'll stick with my safe, boring Midwest digs for now. Yep, ya deal with the winters but you pick your poisin. When I get too much of the cold, the airport to the sun in just 15 minutes away.

Cheers...
