That fucking phrase is going to be in the history books, for the love of God. :grr::mad:

It would be like calling slavery "Operation Honest Labor", or the bombing of Hiroshima "Operation Urban Renewal".

God forgive us all...

1. The original name was "Operation Iraqi Liberation" - seriously
O.I.L. - get it?? HAhahahahahahaahah! So funny!

It's as if they take us for such dumbshits that we wouldn't pick that up. Of course, enough people made a stink and it was renamed.

2. wasn't it originally "Operation Iraqi Liberation"?
it speaks to my leaky memory that even now I'm not sure if that was a joke, or if it was real and changed at the last minute for excessive cynicism.

4. Yeah, they only changed it because it signaled their true purpose
too accurately for comfort...

8. It was, until one of the smarter ones pointed out the obvious.
"Then make it 'freedom.' Yeah, freedom's always good, gets 'em right here every time."

Voltaire was wrong about one thing. When confronted with fools, a wiser men is often compelled to point out the obvious.

5. I think originally, (O)peration (I)raqi (L)iberation was considered.....
..but I guess they realized the acronym would be O-I-L

9. Clean skies act...
I believe the Bush crime family has a whole department, the Orwellian department of Newspeak to be precise, that is responsible for naming unpleasant laws and activities with counterintuitive titles.

Seriously, this is a major strategy by this administration. Like the clean skies act that actually increased pollution levels, or the Patriot Act that stripped away constitutional rights.

10. Everytime they come up with something that strips the way our
constitution or is morally and legally corrupt, they throw that Orwellian doublespeak on it and everyone thinks it must be good.... Everytime I hear one of these coined terms, I want to throw up and want to know what else I'm losing to this fascist state.

11. The "Clean Water Act" allowed greater amounts of arsenic in drinking water.

IIRC, that was the "Clear Skies Act."

12. ah, for the honesty of the Vietnam War days
when military operations had names like "Operation Masher" and "Operation Rolling Thunder". Ironic that Vietnam seems more honest, in that respect, than the Iraq War. If truth mattered to the Bush people, it would've been called "Operation Gigantic F*ck-up".
