McCain is "outraged" over a million bucks for the Woodstock Museum..
and a million bucks for grizzly bear research. Yet he's got no problem with the trillions that we've thrown down the Iraq shithole, much of which is completely unaccounted for?..:eyes:

Hey McCain, I'm talkin' to you!

3. John McCain can go fuck himself.
He is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear, and although I won't go so far as to call him a traitor, with his support of the Illegal War of Aggression he is at the very least as bad as an active Party functionary was in Nazi Germany.

23. I hate earmarks for stuff like this.
the fact is a lot of earmarks are used to "buy" the support of "the folks back home" and do not benefit anyone else, and I think the Woodstock museum is an example of that. The town I live in has just lost the largest employer, town of 4500 with over 1700 employed at the factory that closed just a few years back, and 2 other major manufacturing employers in town are laying people off at an alarming rate right now. I have a hard time saying yeah let's support money going to a Woodstock museum given the economic hardship facing those around me.
But I am not advocating federal tax dollars be injected for an economic revitalization of my area.

26. I think you're missing the point though..
why focus on a lousy 2 million bucks, dedicated to cultural preservation, which is just a teeny drop in the bucket, when there are billions being wastefully and fraudulently poured into programs that are supposedly "protecting" or "defending" us. It's faux outrage.

29. no I am not missing the point
I understand that the larger issue is the billions being spent in Iraq, I just don't think that "redirecting" those funds to pet projects for politicians is an appropriate thing to do either. Why don't we spend the million for, oh I don't know, veteran care.

30. The repubs cut veteran care...
it's "wasteful" according to them, something that I don't think Senator Clinton would agree with. So once again the POINT is that McCain is talking out of his ass, as are most repubs.

32. granted, but suggesting as the post I was responding to
that we double the million and give it to the Woodstock museum just because a mccain is outraged by it is bullshit too. Lets spend that money where it will actually do some good.

33. I don't want to put words in the OP's mouth..
but I believe the implication was that they would rather "waste" their money on this than the war, I doubt they advocate the taking of that money from children or veterans. I think we're all in agreement on that, the Democrats that is.

38. The bigger question is what would be perserved in a Woodstock Museum
The music and the movie are the best ways to understand Woodstock. The event was on a farm outside Woodstock. After the people were gone and it was cleaned up - what was there to see?

There are places that could pull the threads together. The type of exposition that the Museum of TV and Radio in NYC has done for other things springs to mind. Our kids were amused by the exhibit they did of when the Beatles first came to the US. The audio tapes from radio really reminded me of those days - as it was radio that communicated most of what was happening. Elsewhere in NYC, I recently saw an exhibit on Bob Dylan - from artifacts to video to print media of the time - they really captured what was there.

41. He was trying to ask questions of the craphead.
Or make comments on the craphead's statements, and got interrupted at every turn - he just kept being polite and the conversation got very disjointed because of the CH's continued talking before Jon finished his questions.

I'm not sure if McCain was attached to any, but he certainly didn't express outrage over them. A couple of my favorites:

$2,400,000 Design, acquisition, and preperation of a facility dedicated to periodic firearms requalification and training in advanced firing techniques and explosives

500,000 Construction of a border fence in Nogales, AZ - U.S. Customs Service
