If We Give Them ALL Of The @i^%#&i Money, Will THAT Be Enough?

The Real NewsA Rant

I just read a post about boric fucking acid being used in mattresses. Boric acid. In mattresses. Can I get you a little fucking rat poison while you sleep, Sir? Ma'am?

I read about this mattress thing, on the heels of coming back from the grocery store and getting gas for my car, feeling completely ripped off by both experiences. Just the thing I needed to challenge my sanity.

snip

They deny insurance claims, delay paying the bills, use every dirty trick and sleazy tactic imaginable, so they can keep more of our money for themselves. In other words, we pay them to tell us 'NO!' - how the fuck did that happen?

Lead in our toys and cosmetics and jewelry. That's the "good" kind of lead, I'm sure. The profitable kind.

And you know what they're doing to consumer products. Everything is thinner, cheaper, tinnier - you know, more profitable. And based on what they are doing to our every day products, who knows what the fuck they're doing to our food? Ready to grow that third ear...on your ass? Or how about some nice cancer with your cheeseburger - better than fries, any day!!!!

PROFIT is the only point in America.

From politics to religion, from relationships to personal goals, our entire society is obsessed, consumed, dominated, controlled, by fucking MONEY.

11. Great way to put it
because it relies on unchecked growth that strangles everything living.

Capitalism can be endured only when it's heavily regulated, we know that now as our grandparents knew that in the past. Unfortunately, as each generation forgets how brutal an unregulated system quickly becomes, they fall for the rhetoric of the rich and their admen and remove regulations that protect them against the powerful.

So let's inhale deeply of the boric acid as we sleep and watch our kids getting stupider from their toxic toys and be grateful we live in such a rich country.

10. You are so right.
I need a new mattress, but I refuse to buy the crap they are selling. I've read about these chemicals in mattresses before, and I've read a lot of complaints from people how they made them sick.

16. Well, that's what minimum wage is for
Conservatives figured out a while back that paying people $5.75 an hour is cheaper than providing them food, clothing, and health care. Chattel slavery is entirely too expensive. Low-wage labor is cheaper, and you don't have to see them on the plantation after hours.

18. Indeed. What the Emancipation Proclamation started has yet to be finished...
In fact, it's only been made more efficient and convenient since then. Whenever this topic comes up, I feel obligated to pimp my essay on the whole issue, which can be found here:

22. Excellent essay! I enjoyed it immensely.
I sent it on for my husband to read it, too. Have you ever posted it here at DU? If you haven't, you definitely should. A lot of people need to read this. This was my favorite part:

But even for those who are "making it" under capitalism, a deeper problem remains. In the animal kingdom, the role of individuals is governed by "dominance hierarchies," and in capitalism, which uses the natural order as its economic theory, the situation is no different. Consider for a moment a typical day in the life of a "free citizen" in the capitalist world...

Early in the morning, he is awakened against his will by the blaring of an alarm clock. In the space of an hour or less, he must shower, dress, and cram down some kind of breakfast. Next, he begins his lengthy daily commute, which he despises. He arrives at the workplace and is reprimanded by an authority figure for being five minutes late (or some other petty concern). He spends the next 8 hours doing exactly what he is told the way he is told to do it, all the while being expected to maintain a compliant "team player" attitude out of gratitude to the employer for giving him the job (and out of fear of losing it). When quitting time arrives, he repeats the morning commute in reverse and arrive home, where he has perhaps a few hours under his own control before he must go to bed and get ready to do it all again the next day.

Where is the freedom in this? The simple fact is that we are economically compelled to sell most of our waking lives to the highest bidder, surrendering our individual autonomy to our employers or our businesses (should we happen to be "self-employed"). What, then, is the difference between this "economic slavery" and traditional chattel slavery? I would submit that it lies in the control mechanisms used.

21. I hear the corporations are abandoning the GOP in droves
And switching their campaign contributions to Democrats. Oh goody, so instead of one party bought and paid for by the corporate monsters, it's another.

Screw that. I want some Teddy Roosevelts on fucking steroids...we need to bust up the monopolies into such fine powder, no one will recognize them anymore.
