What important cause do you feel is often ignored?
I am working on a "poster for a cause" project for an illustration class. I love doing posters, and I believe people should always use their talents to support the things they believe in... there's just so much to work for. My assignment doesn't specify a cause, so in making a decision I'd like to try to focus on something that really needs the attention. One that is on top of the list is the crisis in Darfur. I would appreciate reading your ideas, and also think it would just be good for everyone to be reminded of what's going on in the world that has been pushed below the fold by the topic du jour in GD.

3. Accessibility for the disabled,
mental illness, the tragic farce that is the War on Drugs, the continued persecution of Lt. Ehren Watada, just off the top of my head.

And thank you for mentioning Darfur. On the foreign policy scene, we have no bigger shame than our (lack of) response to this crisis, except for our illegal occupation of Iraq.

Thanks for this post. It helps raise the tone around here these days considerably.

6. In Prince William County Virginia
the evilness of racism has taken over. We have wonderful people in our community who are dedicating themselves to fight the resolution here. I would focus on tolerance and acceptance in the local community where you live. Elect good ethically diverse people in your community to school board and county supervisor when you can. When these efforts fail, take to the streets and illicit the conscience of your fellow neighbors.

15. This is not only overlooked but ignored.
It's one of those things people don't want to think about because it's in their own country and could very well happen to them...

It definitely needs to be brought to the public's attention.

17. The Drug War
It's made our jam-packed prisons the breeding ground for all the rape and torture we've been exporting in the Terror War. Prison labor contracts gobble up American jobs. Gangsters make huge profits, the better to do their gangster shit.

They have already come for your neighbors, and most people not only did not speak up. Most people watched it on TV like it was a goddamn spectator sport.

22. It's a tie for me between campaign financing and media consolidation...
Both of these two issues are what the corporate media want to avoid the most, as they deal with the center of corporate power over us.

Credible scientists know it exists, but too many people either dismiss it or go about their ways anyway. I'm even guilty of not doing enough.

If you lock horns with big business you lose. Simply because their interests are deemed more important than any individual's.
