Rep. Wexler Will Urge the Judiciary Committee to Hold Immediate Hearings on Impeachment!!!
Submitted by davidswanson on Wed, 2007-11-07 20:48. Congress
Rep. Robert Wexler sent his constituents this beautiful and admirable Email today:

As a person who supports holding this Administration accountable for their deceptive actions, you may be interested to know about the recent votes in the House regarding H.Res. 333, "Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors."

I share your belief that Vice President Cheney must answer for his deceptive actions in office, particularly with regard to the preparations for the Iraq war and the revelation of the identity of covert agent Valerie Plame Wilson as part of political retribution against her husband. That is why I voted against the motion to table debate on H.Res. 333. Along with only 85 other Democrats, I opposed tabling the measure and supported beginning immediate debate and a vote on the Cheney impeachment resolution. The vote on tabling the Kucinich resolution was rejected, and the House subsequently voted to refer the matter to the Judiciary Committee.

Vice President Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration have demonstrated a consistent pattern of abusing the law and misleading Congress and the American people. We see the consequences of these actions abroad in Iraq and at home through the violations of our civil liberties. The American people are served well with a legitimate and thorough impeachment inquiry. I will urge the Judiciary Committee to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months. Only through hearings can we bring begin to correct the abuses of Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration; and, if it is determined in these hearings that Vice President Cheney has committed High Crimes and Misdemeanors, he should be impeached and removed from office. It is time for Congress to expose the multitude of misdeeds of the Administration, and I am hopeful that the Judiciary Committee will expeditiously begin an investigation of this matter.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns. I sincerely appreciate your input and hope that you will feel free to contact me anytime I may be of assistance to you. In addition, I hope you find my website (http://wexler.house.gov) a valuable resource in keeping up with events in Washington and in South Florida.

With warm regards,

Congressman Robert Wexler Signature

102. Utmost Importance!
Calling won't do anything. I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with Conyers office and the gentleman was very candid in saying that.

However calling, but more importantly writing a letter to our local representatives, has a much greater effect. The page I'm attaching contacts those representatives automatically. But even more important is to take the time and spend the 41-cents to mail a letter to your local rep.

I have a couple of pictures of me with Arlo taken after a concert in Columbia, MO in the early nineties. After the concert I walked out back to the alley where his tour bus was and asked if he would take a picture with me. He was so kind and real. The two pics I have are of me & Arlo sitting on the stairs of his bus. I truly treasure those pics.

Your posts always make me feel happy, too. :pals:

It will be a HUGE black eye on the Republican party going into the elections. Even someone who got to be VP for a few months would not stand a chance. Plus it would show Democrats have some fucking balls for a change. The American people like a party with spine!

39. If they actually grow a spine & impeach Cheney, there is no way Jeb would get
confirmed as VP. I don't think Rudy would make it, either.

most likely, an "elder" statesman type in the House or Senate in a place where a Republic governor can appoint the replacement, but also their age will ensure they don't also join the race for 2008. maybe Orrin Hatch?

45. "Only through hearings..."
Many of us who were calling for impeachment of Bush and Cheney (in reverse order, in a lot of cases) have been thoroughly pilloried here for being juvenile, having tantrums, demanding to have it our way -- even though all we have wanted is to see justice done in accordance with the rule of law and the Constitution.

Now the opportunity yawns before us. We can have hearings all day long, day after day, to learn that, indeed, as we have known since John Conyers published his basement-inspired tome on the subject, there is evidence in great abundance to remove Bush and Cheney from office, and send their underlings to the trash bin along with them.

Let the hearings begin!

46. 2 Thoughts or my 2 cents worth
1. The impeachment ball might finally start rolling thanks to the Republicans that voted against tabling the resolution yesterday!
2. Watch out as you all know when the shit gets hot and starts to hit the fan at the White House they start Wagging the Dogs Tail!

Be cautious very cautious Cheney despite his looks is not Elmer Fudd he really is a clever rascle and smarter than Buggs Bunny!

Got Fascism Yet?

Fascism Accomplished!

107. And wag the dog's tail they will do -- if impeachment proceedings go forward
Edited on Thu Nov-08-07 05:42 PM by AikidoSoul
Just picture the impeachment proceedings beginning.... and suddenly we see bombs being dropped on Iran... to distract the public, and to punish the "weak" Dems who are "soft on terrorism". They will probably also fake another Gulf of Tonkin type incident to further distract and to try to get the public on their side.

This is exactly the kind of thing these thugs are capable of. They are two dangerous criminals....

51. Thank you Congressman Wexler- let's hope we can inspire more to join with you.
Seems like we all have some phone calls to make in the next few days-- or a few more phone calls for those of us who have already been calling our Representatives. This will require a growndswell of efforts but if enough of us start making enough noise and we can engage the media somehow, just maybe, we can make this happen.

65. What is the procedure on that?
If the JC debates this and the committee comes to the conclusion that they should go forward, can't they just tell Pelosi to fuck off? I mean if they find laws were broken then she would be obstructing justice.

105. That is total shit. They are divided in their opinions. Normal for Dems N/T
and each party has its range from more Liberal, Moderate, Conservative -- and then RIGHT WING CRAZIES.

This is a vote to show that we think the Rule of Law and the United States Constitution are worth defending.

You have a problem with that?

Why should any Democrat have a problem with that -- they took a friggin oath to defend the Constitution!

(Washington, DC)- A spokeswoman for the House Judiciary Committee issued the following statement today in response to floor action on a house resolution to begin impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney:

"The committee has a very busy agenda - over the next two weeks, we hope to pass a FISA bill, to vote on contempt of Congress citations, pass legislation on prisoner re-entry, court security and a variety of other very important items. We were surprised that the minority was so ready to move forward with consideration of a matter of such complexity as impeaching the Vice President. The Chairman will discuss today's vote with the committee members but it would seem evident that the committee staff should continue to consider, as a preliminary matter, the many abuses of this Administration, including the Vice President." - House Judiciary Committee Spokeswoman

this part made me LOL.

lets let them know how the people really feel!

one final thought: I said this before in other posts. We need to be their backbone. Instead of jumping all over the Dem leaders when they cave, we need to take the positive action to let them know they are backed up by the people. I am certain beyond doubt, that the dem leaders are under massive pressure and likely physical threats to their well-being and loved ones. do you honestly think that people who would start a war based on lies and motivated by greed would hesitate to use any means of intimidation to quell opposition?

Un-circle the firing squad and let us stand shoulder to shoulder and take aim at the real enemy!

The moment is NOW! I can feel it. Believe it and keep it going!

I called every Dem and Repug member of the committee yesterday urging that H 333 be voted out of committee. Without exception, the staff members who took my calls told me they had been "swamped" with calls all day.

I know it's a long shot, but I HAVE to try, right?

97. Even Republicans are urging impeachment
Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran.

Bush has put in place all the necessary measures for dictatorship in the form of "executive orders" that are triggered whenever Bush declares a national emergency. Recent statements by Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff, former Republican senator Rick Santorum and others suggest that Americans might expect a series of staged, or false flag, "terrorist" events in the near future.
