1. I wonder how much credit the Doctors will get for saving her life
I also hope she doesn't develop any phantom limb syndrome as that would be a major pain in her case.

5. Very pretty face and such beautiful eyes.....my grandaughter has huge dark eyes like that
they can melt your heart...I wish this lovely little girl all the best our present day medical care has to offer..so thankful that in at least the medical field we have come out of the dark ages that once feared such innocent children.

7. Dear god. That's just creeping me out. And as a surgeon, I
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 04:24 PM by kestrel91316
am completely wigged out by the thought of them having to decide which of the 6 legs to keep and which to get rid of. And the actual surgery itself.........holy moly.

I just read the actual article (duh, you really should try it more often, kestrel). Parasitic twins creep me out even more. At least they know right where to cut........

This is why need maternity exams and prenatal ultrasound......

12. I was thinking that myself
I am guessing they will either go with which ever two have the best nerve/motor control or which ever are centered best.

Good grief... does she have sockets for each of those limbs? Or are they just vestigial? eesh... brain going oogey.

19. Do you mean she should have been aborted if ultrasound showed this deformity? nt

23. Sadly
in India I think they mostly use prenatal ultrasound to eliminate female fetuses.

28. What would prenatal ultrasound have done? GIven a reason to abort?
I don't know when a developing human becomes human. Choosing abortion because the potential life doesn't mean standard requirements isn't always a good thing. In this country, people abort fetuses with an extra chromosome (Down's syndrome).
In India, people abort fetuses for lack of a Y chromosome.

10. I wonder if this is actually a type of conjoined-twin situation?
I hope she comes out of the surgery ok.

13. It's a parasitic headless twin situation. I finally got up the nerve to
read the original article.

20. The X-ray is fascinating.
Looking only at the photo the girl seems to have six legs but the X-ray makes it pretty clear that she has four arms and four legs and an almost complete twin attached.

15. Looking closely at the picture, it seems that the two bottom legs are "normal".
It seems to be the four upper legs are parasitic.

I hope her surgery goes well, sweet little thing!

18. I feel sorry for the little cutie, I DO
but when I viewed the Xray, the theme song from "Spiderman" kept running through my head.. I already Know there's something wrong with me, thanks..

Looks like a surgeon needs to remove the lower attached non person, the sockets for her legs seem to be there, no tailbone though.. So sad, and she's had to endure if for so long too..
