My cousin is coming home from Iraq tomorrow....

Today I got a message from my cousin who has been in Iraq for almost the whole last year. He did his last mission a few days ago and will be off to Kuwait tomorrow.

You know, I know several soldiers who have served in Iraq, a few classmates and even a kid who was one of my athletes when I was a high school wrestling coach, and a great fear of mine was if something had happened to any of them.

Death or injury in any war would be bad, but to think that there are young men and women dying and being maimed for such a travesty as this immoral war is harrowing. What a tragedy to wreck lives because of this administration's ignorant bloodlust. It's been a long awful several years that's for sure.

So I'm glad my cousin is coming back in perfect health, and I hope the rest of our soldiers will be coming home safely soon.

he sent a pretty distraught email out a few months ago about watching his friend die right next to him. That had to be pretty rough.

and for him. Despite not liking the reasons we are over there, these kids are America's heroes and should be honored for the service and the sacrifices they have made in the name of our country. My dear nephew is back for a second tour, with the Army. He knows I'm a fan of Democratic Underground and what I believe. I never ever denigrate his service and always make sure he knows how proud I am of him.
