1. I pray for them too...what will be telling and what will open
many Americans eyes is that this Administration was not prepared for this disaster. They have been so preoccupied dismantling the constitution at the peril of the infrastructure of this country.

One Million Californians....2-3 years ago Katrina diplaced thousands....

This administration has once again proven they have no plan in case disaster strikes.

4. It really depends what happens after the critical phase of this is over
at least in San Diego... in the CRITICAL phase, they've done an amazing job

This is from the POV of somebody who used to do this for fun (hey the Mexican Red Cross NEVER paid me)

Mark my words though, during the early reconstruction and especially late reconstruction (18 - 24 months time line) that is where you will see the problems crop up... if they are mid.. ok, they are always present... but I don't expect them to be mild

But in the critical phase... my hat is off to them.. from one pro to another

3. Best of "luck" with that "god" thing
I grew up in So Cal, by Bro just moved back. His home is in danger. We're not counting on any "god/s".

But thanks, all the same.

18. It's astonishing that people choose
to read a thread wishing people in crisis well, and cannot, or will not, exercise that most simple of notions: if you don't have anything nice to say, shut the fuck up.

8. In an ironic and sad twist

replacing the burned houses will provide some work for construction companies and workers that have seen home building decline or disappear due to the mortgage debacle.

11. Rebuild....don't move to Texas.
It is so close to the Texas border they might think about it. But we can't desimate another democratic state.

14. God might make it rain or make the winds stop.
One never knows what God might do because "He" works in mysterious ways.

20. I live in a fire zone
I came to the firezone because that's where my job sent me. The house I bought sits on a kind of road peninsula with the blacktop road going almost all around. This is no accident. There is a vacant lot next door and I have large rock firebreak between me and that lot. But all around me there are houses on ridges, with miles of fuel going right up to their overhanging decks.

I know this sounds bad, but if I was an insurance company, I'd want proof that the owners on the ridges had 30 meters of firebreak below their houses. Otherwise, no policy. You buy a house on the outskirts with your eyes open.

21. Best of luck to you, though...
It's hard to imagine a strip of land stretching from Dallas to Waco, six miles wide, and all of it in flames. Such a fire would devastate my home state, too. A few states in New England would be swallowed up completely.

Hang in there. :hi:
