Is it just me... or did the Dali Lama just hand Bush his ass?
Bush spent the day pacifying China over the visit today.

Then, the Dali Lama gave a beautiful speech, punctuated by frequent laughs, at himself and the human condition, and full of the importance of Tibetan liberty.

He used Bush's "freedoms" and "religions" and "justice" that George falsely uses in his Iraqi model, and extended them into the reality of the Tibetan model.

Whether deliberate or not - it was a thing to behold.

Georgie should've stayed home. He had a tight smile on his face whenever they cut to him.

*chuckle*

2. I don't think we should be acknowledging the Dalai Lama.
The only purpose it serves is antagonizing China, and that's the last thing we should be doing right now. Also, we should be focused on all the Native Americans we killed.

6. You can bet your ass that China is seething about now and as you say...
you don't want to go out of your way to piss off a country that has 1.3 Billion people... with (I believe) an armed forces of 1.5 million. That to me is just crazy ... but no one ever accused shit for brains of having any brains... Soooooo

That's what I find kind of interesting about this, as Bush seems to be doing exactly what he is criticizing the Democrats for doing regarding the Genocide Resolution.

31. Yes, actually, you do.
China is a human-rights nightmare. China also fancies itself a rising world leader and still desires world approval. To an extent, justified public shamings are effective. Notice how quickly they turned things around after the latest rash of recalls? Remember how they altered their tune on Darfur once American celebrities started to complain about Chinese tacit support of genocide? China has a strong military, but China is not so strong it can be considered to be above reproach.

10. Couldn't we do both?
Acknowledge the Dalai Lama and focus on all the Native Americans that were killed?

Sorry, but we antagonize all sorts of Countries in the World on a daily basis for stupid and idiotic reasons - antagonizing China for the right reasons for a change seems a refreshing change of pace.

China can go jump in a lake, for all I care, at the moment - when they stop spreading their poisonous products and components over here, then I might give a damn about what they think!

35. Do you think China will cut off their trading partner with whom they own huge debt of?
They are just throwing a fit; economic interests drive states and China's never going to leave any kind of agreement with us over Tibet.

7. I doubt he would do it deliberately BUT
he does have a sense of humor.
Interesting that the U.S. (& others) wants Red China to put pressure on Myanmar, who is doing exactly what china did to Tibet (other than the invasion of a sovereign nation part).

There's more humor in the Dalai Lama's little toenail than exists inside the entire beltway.

9. Please explain the hypocrisy here?
We can't cite the Armenian genocide which happened 90 years ago but we can honor the Dali Lama even though it pisses off the world's most populous nation, number one trading partner and potent nuclear power?

I am not defending Bush, but this is not consistent with his publicly stated "logic" of not rocking the boat.

meaning he (Bu**sh**) wants China to open its doors to fundy missionairies, and he'll ally with anyone who is pointing in the same direction, however approximately.
