Giuliani fundraiser costs $9.11 per person

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A spokeswoman for Rudy Giuliani says it is unfortunate that a supporter throwing a party that aims to raise $9.11 per person for the Republican's presidential campaign is asking for that amount.

Abraham Sofaer is having a fundraiser at his Palo Alto, California, home on Wednesday, when Giuliani backers across the country are participating in the campaign's national house party night.

But Sofaer said he had nothing to do with the "$9.11 for Rudy" theme.

"There are some young people who came up with it," Sofaer said when reached by telephone Monday evening. He referred other questions to Giuliani's campaign.

-snip-

According to the invitation, "$9.11 for Rudy" is an "independent, non-denominational grass-roots campaign to raise $10,000 in small increments to show how many individual, everyday Americans support 'America's Mayor."'

1. Good
Recalls that Rudy's star grew on the bodies of thousands -- the festering beast.

6. That's probably what they meant by an "unfortunate choice"
I suspect they thought the placement of the decimal point was too far left.

5. Why not auction off lampshades made with the skins of the victims?
I understand such things were all the rage in 1940's Germany.

9. That's all he's got.
At this rate, he's going to start losing steam. Even the damn Republicans are going to get tired of that one-note tune. Romney anyone?

10. Obviously, this was meant as a counterpunch to Obama whose number of individual
private contributors (some of whom send in as little as $5.00) has gone through the stratosphere.
Problem is, asking people to give $9.11 is unconscionable, tacky and more than a little revolting.
May this be as much of a death knell for his campaign as 9/11 was, in reality, for so many people's dreams.
He should be ashamed of himself.
