Conyers and Kucinich for Impeachment if Bush Attacks Iran
Conyers and Kucinich for Impeachment if Bush Attacks Iran
Submitted by davidswanson on Mon, 2007-02-12

Congressmen John Conyers and Dennis Kucinich have suggested that they are for impeachment of Bush if he attacks Iran. Here's a two-and-a-half-minute audio clip http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/downloads/conyerskucinich.mp3 of both of them being interviewed by John Nichols.

"The degree to which this President continues to take steps to go to war against Iran without consulting with the full Congress is the degree to which he is increasingly putting himself in jeopardy of an impeachment proceeding."

2. stop him now damnit
They are aware and are prepared for shrub to start another illegal war and all they are going to do is say that next time they will stop him. By saying that we will get him next time, they have excused this "last" time.

I'm guessing that shrub would really like another "Pearl Harbor-type" event to happen here before he starts his next illegal war. If that happens king shrub will appoint himself unitary executive and might suspend Congress (for their safety, of course), then it will be too late boys.

Stop him now damnit.

If the bombs start dropping, impeachment would come the day after gasoline is 5 dollars/gallon, China stops purchasing more US treasury bonds to punish the US gov't, the US economy starts going belly-up, and the world considers the US gov't an entity to be feared like the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. The US would no longer be a world leader in any real sense beyond mere economic and military girth.

In short, it comes after the damage has already been inflicted. Too little, too late.

4. Well at least we now know what it's going to take.
I still hold out hope that some of these investigations will uncover impeachable actions on the part of Bush and Cheney.

Oh how I hope we get to the point that another year and a half of Bush/Cheny is simply too much to tolerate!

means that they are going to pull the trigger on him before he pulls the trigger on Iran.

58. So that means now, right?
Two carrier groups positioned in the Strait of Hormuz with a third reportedly on the way, a Navy Admiral just placed in command of a ground war, the pictures of weapons with English-language markings and Western calendar dates being trotted out and presented as being of Iranian origin this week, along with the whole rest of the drumbeat to war steadily picking up volume in the MSM -- to me, all of this clearly qualifies as "steps". As others have said repeatedly on DU, one day we'll wake up and it will have been started.

This falls firmly into the category of: "...and you, all of you, will be left to study what we do."

I really want to support Conyers and Kucinich, but this type of thing really makes me wonder if they're truly aware of the urgency, or really have the stomach to do what needs to be done.

57. Very good analogy
And especially true for Conyers, who constantly talked a good game about impeachment when the Dems were in the minority and led us all to believe he would actually do something if they won last November.

15. I'm for impeachment now
Why let more lives be lost, when the carnage is already so horrific? There are so many reasons to impeach both Bush and Cheney, that it seems wrong not to do it. The administration is using the same methods they used before Bush illegally invaded Iraq, and just warning him not to do it just makes him more stubborn, and determined to be the "decider". You can't reason with a sociopath, you need to remove him from power.

26. How about instead of waiting for the attack we have an "impeachometer"!
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 02:21 PM by calipendence
And Conyers and Kucinich, instead of waiting for that outcome to happen, have a measuring stick on every time the "compliant" corporate media and they conspire to move closer to an attack on Iran with misleading reports, premature mliitary deployments, or other such things, we move the impeachment meter closer to the "firing pin". Bush will then know if he pushes too hard now with his coporate media cronies that he will get called on the carpet! If we can have a documentation of each set of points on the impeachment meter that show how he or his propaganda machine are using lies, distortion, or other statements without factual support to try to egg us in, he's pushing us to that ultimate solution.

Then the people can see the measuring stick that we're giving Bush a chance to "behave", but he's not doing so, so then it will be time to punish their whole gang of spoilt brats!
