Take A Poll From The Nation : Candidates & Iraq
down on right

http://www.thenation.com/

Which Democratic presidential candidate has the best plan for getting out of Iraq?

John Edwards | He's clear: Immediate withdrawal of 40,000 to 50,000 troops and an end to our involvment by Summer 2008.

Barack Obama | He's got a plan: He's introduced a bill to begin redeploying troops by March 2008.

Hillary Clinton | She's realistic: Once elected she'll craft an exit strategy and get the United Nations involved.

Dennis Kucinich | He'd use the power of the purse to withdraw war funding now

1. (aside) Unfortunately there's only 4 candidates in the poll. We've a bigger field than that.

2. Obama's plan is to begin withdrawal now
The legislation was to have the combat troops out by March 2008.

3. My understanding is that Obama
Has voted funding for the occupation several times..

How does that square with his plan to withdraw troops now?

4. His recent pledge to tie funding to withdrawal
He said he won't vote for a funding bill that doesn't have a date for withdrawal. His plan is to pull 2 brigades a month, increase humanitarian aid to the refugees and social issues, and bring in the region to create stability, and talk to Iran. Of the top 3, he's the best on foreign policy. It would definitely change.

6. I don't think the partition will work
I think it will be a temporary band-aid, if that. Otherwise, I'm avoiding saying negative things about Biden.

7. I'm not sure how getting the UN involved is realistic.
They didn't want this war and when they went in after the invasion, they were attacked. Of those four, right now I support Kucinich. Everything else is window dressing until the election anyway. I support Richardson's plan of a regional solution and no US residual force left, but that choice isn't listed. Overall, a bad and misleading poll.
