Please stop talking about porn/aspects of porn/analysis of porn on DU
and focus on issues that involve good governance. Which is what THIS DU WEBSITE is supposed to be about, lest we forget.

Porn 'sells' (corporatists distracting your nose?), but it sure doesn't 'lead' (deciding the future for yourself, your children, your grandchildren).

I hope the mods will consider moving the porn threads to the lounge, or perhaps create a 'Porn Forum' to throw all of these posts to.

Peace,
M_Y_H

5. No, I think it should have it's own forum
Lord knows that more worthy/weighty topics than porn have had their own forums created. Porn should have it's own forum, for those who are interested in the subject to discuss....for those who are not interested, we can ignore/refrain.

Peace,
M_Y_H

This is "general discussion," and those threads--heated though they've been--are entirely appropriate in this forum. You want policy discussion, step down one level to GD/Politics.

Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 01:44 AM by Cronus Protagonist
In our entertainment filled world, "being fascinating" is the holy grail of entertainment. Porn should take up a fair amount of discussion and attention in any open society.

12. Quit denying porn
Is harmless. And that people are never harmed by it.

Get honest or deal with the fact other people have a beef with your stubborn denial about how the industry sometimes causes exploitation and dehumanization and keeps patriarchy making this culture sickening and abusive..

I'm a bisexual guy and I would rather do anal, passive or active, with the camera running than to be left to die three thousand feet below the Earth in a cold , damp, Utah coal mine so people can have cheap power...

It seems that not only porn aficionados benefit from the "exploitation" of others...

24. I thought the forum rules
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 07:52 AM by cgrindley
included support for whatever Democrat is running in a given race. I seem to recall that the occasional Green supporter has been warned in the past. For some reason, no one seems to be doing that in this battle. Personally, I think that anyone who says that they wouldn't support or vote for a given candidate in the next election should leave DU. I have no idea why this part of the forum rules hasn't been brought up lately or why the anti-hillary threads haven't been deleted as flamebait.

on edit:

Here's the quotation:

"Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office."

seems clear enough to me...

With porn, you can filter your cable/stellite, avoid toy stores and Netflix.

With GD, you can hide thread, ignore the authors, or (GASP, IT'S TOO HARD TO DO THIS)--

scroll past...

But humanity forbid we should put YOU out. :eyes:

41. Maybe, if one gets into a topic or activity, anything about that topic is porn ..... for example:
DU itself might well be thought of as Political Porn

The Food Channel may well be thought of as Food Porn

HGTV might well be thought of as Decor Porn

The endless threads celebrating some non-Democrat or other might be thought of as ProgressoPorn

And on and on.

You don't like everything discussed here. Good for you. You can be thought of as discerning.

I don't like everything discussed here. I, too, can be thought of as discerning.

But then there's the notion of tolerance. You may not like it all, but you sure wouldn't want your parade pissed upon. Why piss on the parade of those who want to discuss something you don't want to discuss.

Engage and debate or ignore. (By 'ignore', I really mean don't click on a thread ... not to place 418 specific DUers on Ignore.)

47. For some reason, when it comes to porn
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 11:14 AM by Hawaii Hiker
alot of people on DU become social conservatives - porn is bad, porn ruins marriages, porn will cause WW III, etc. etc....:banghead:

Yes, I do have a strong support of the adult-film industry, having known industry people for 6 years now & I've alwaye been a the strong supporter of First Amendment issues...When Howard Stern was kicked off Clearchannel years ago (thankfully there's sateliite radio now), I wrote several letters to the applicable places....I get fired up over censorship type issues whether it involves porn, Howard Stern, Hollywood, etc...

No one is saying one should like porn, but a TRUE social liberal or libertarian would say "hey, it's not for me, but I don't think porn should be banned because I don't like it".....

Intrusive and/or invasive social conservatism is NOT the way to go...

personal choice advocates get painted as "pro porn industry". I guess it's the same tactic as calling abortion pro choicers "Pro Abortion".

And many of the posters who have spoken in defense of choice and free expression have said the porn industry would benefit from normalization so regulation could be improved.
