Allen and Frist: GOP Birthday Boys
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2006/03/george_allen.html

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (Tenn.) should be feeling pretty pleased this morning.

Just a few weeks after Frist's wife -- Karyn -- sent an e-mail to supporters of her husband asking them to sign a "birthday album" to commemorate his 54th birthday on Feb. 22, Sen. George Allen's (R-Va.) wife -- Susan -- penned a strikingly similar message on Monday asking Allen backers to sign an online birthday card for him as he celebrates his own 54th birthday tomorrow.

Both men are considered likely candidates for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

"I'm planning to surprise on his birthday and instead of him looking at headlines in the Washington Post that morning, he'll be reading his 'birthday album' filled with birthday wishes from friends in Tennessee and from all across the country," writes Karyn Frist. "I have this idea -- since George and I view all of the friends we've made campaigning over the years as part of our extended family, I thought it would be a wonderful surprise if all of his friends around the Commonwealth signed a birthday card for him," writes Susan Allen.

But wait, there are more similarities:

"Bill's birthday is a special occasion for our family," writes Karyn Frist, adding that the "family planning to celebrate his day here at home with caramel cake (his favorite!) and ice cream." "Birthdays are always special times in the Allen family," says Susan Allen. "I know Tyler and Forrest still love gathering around the table for birthday cake." (Apparently George Allen's favorite type of cake will remain a mystery for now.)

Susan Allen says she is "proud of the work that George is doing in the United States Senate."

1. Probably both are feeling pretty hard-done-by at the moment
Losing power isn't easy when you're addicted to it.

I think plenty of OTHER people got their birthday wishes about those two, anyway!

Two down, plenty more to go. Can someone please dig up some juicy scandal about Romney, Giuliani (well, they do, but it never seemss to work), Fred Thompson, and anyone else who might get the Republican nomination.
