~snip~ ‘Stickler Recess Appointment Disregards Workers’ Safety’
by James Parks, Oct 20, 2006

We noted this morning that since President Bush couldn’t get his nomination of coal executive Richard Stickler to head the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) through Congress, he gave Stickler a recess appointment.

Mine Workers (UMWA) President Cecil Roberts said today the recess appointment “has demonstrated that the pleas of coal miners throughout the land for him to appoint a strong advocate for their safety to that position have fallen on deaf ears.”

12. The Dems turned this guy down for confirmation twice.
It's not like they did nothing but Bush completely ignored them.

As for why the MSM has ignored this: because not enough people have died yet and because Murray's a great bamboozler, acting like he had nothing to do with these mines, no not one tiny bit.

16. If Stickler got in as a recess appointment in 2006 then why is he still there?
Recess appointments are only valid for the duration of the Congressional Session. He was recess appointed during the 109th Congress which ended in 2006.

The 110th Congress started in 2007.

So why is Stickler still there?

10. That's why this whole mine tragedy has been a CYA
operation from the start. I wondered how they were going to pull it off, but it's easy if you have a corrupt investigator.

13. In one of the Murray few pressers I saw, The Gov't guy was speaking...
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 07:32 PM by Junkdrawer
when Murray called him aside, whispered in his ear, and then they stopped the presser while some traffic went by.

It was the way that Murray just told the gov't guy what to do and how the gov't guy immediately snapped to that got my attention.
