Far Right Terrorism Watch: White Supremacists threatening Southern Poverty Law Center

Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center has increased security around its building following threats from white supremacists to blow up its building.

The security threat against the center, located in Montgomery, comes after a lawsuit was filed in late July against the Imperial Klans of America.

The suit, filed in Kentucky, contends that two Klansmen severely beat a 16-year-old male at a Kentucky county fair in July 2006. The attack left the teen with two cracked ribs, a broken left forearm, cuts and bruises.

Two men are serving three-year prison terms after pleading guilty to second-degree assault. The center sued them for their actions in late February and later added the IKA and three other individuals.

SPLC co-founder Morris Dees said in an e-mail Monday that the center will not back down.

There have been almost a dozen threats in relation to the suit.

No one from the Klan organization has responded to calls for comment.
