Nicknameless has left Democratic Underground
I have been informed by one of her friends in California that my friend, Nancy, aka Nicknameless, has lost her battle with
cancer and passed away last week. She was an intensely committed to election reform, a return to justice and always
posted with a send them to the Hague signature line complete with a photo of the Hague. She was a person who took
a intense joy out of simple things, meditating, her cat: Zinga, gardening, the CD "Mariner" was her favorite album.
I was told that she constantly talked about DU and how much we all meant to her in her last days.

Good Bye, Nancy, we will remember your dedication and your love of life.

Nancy was an intensely private person and I am sure she wanted to have a private funeral with her friends in
San Francisco, but I thought there should be a note here on her passing. She loved the Rock and Roll oldies, she
had just turned 50 last winter.

Good Bye Nancy, we all will miss you!

Miss Waverly

she tried to get him to switch to these "energy packs" that you create with a juicer, she thought it would help him with
his cancer.

Her poster name is synonymous with the good fight.

She was posting regularly when I came upon this site.

on the music and it helps you relax.

276. I usually just go to Itunes
but you have to pay by the tract, it's better to just buy the CD from Amazon and then just burn it your playlist and then
download to your mp3, or play it while you are at DU, it's probably cheaper.

I think it's $1.50 by song.

good luck.

I had a dream when Andy died, I saw him standing in heaven and he was still in pain, still suffering from the cancer
and then came this shower of golden rain and I saw that every rain drop had a light inside and I realized that
every rain drop was a prayer or a kind thought from all the DU people and all the people that knew him
and after the rain stopped, I dreamed that he was standing there well again that the prayers and kind thoughts had
healed him.

345. Andy.
Did I know Andy?

Did he know me?

Probably not.

We interacted. In this weird web world, we talked to each other. "Great Post Andy, now did you hear...,"
that kind of stuff.

Every time I saw an Andy post, I knew I had a kindred spirit. He would respond to what I had to say and I to him. When he was in Dutch with the mods or Skinner, I went to bat for him. (As did many DUers.)

Andy got sucker punched. Both by the cancer and the Freepers. Between the two of them, they removed a powerful articulate voice for democracy and human rights.

I miss Andy, and I suspect that we are a whole lot worse off having lost ms nicknameless.

and she came around this curve and she saw this house, it was like her dream house, the one that she always kinda
wanted and the next time she drove that way, she went down the same street and there was no house just a vacant
lot. Well, maybe she is now there in her dream house, I just hope it has a connection to DU becuz that's

192. yes, I was thinking of a poem driving home
Conscientous Objector - by Edna St. Vincent Millay

"I shall die, but that is all I will do for death.

I hear him leading his horse out of the stall; I hear the
clatter on the barn-floor.
He's in haste, he has business in Cuba, business
in the Balkans, many calls to make this morning.
...I shall die; but that it is all I will do for death;
I am not on his payroll."

She never bought the spin, she never bought the excuses
and she did not believe that supporting the troops
meant sending them to die based on a lie.

I remember talking to Nancy about the prayer the "Our Father"

when I was young, I was really into the Give us this day, our DAILY BREAD, of
course we were dirt poor and hunger was no stranger in our house.

But now I think the Give us this day is the really important part,
just to have the day.

217. thank you,
If she could have just reached one person on here just one, then it would have been worth it for her.
If she could have gotten just one person to donate to help the animals abandoned after Katrina.
If she could have gotten just one person to donate for the Katrina victims.
If she could have gotten just one person to believe in election reform.
If she could have gotten just one person to want them to support the troops by bringing them home.
then all the time that she spent here would have been worth it to her.

Becuz you see, we will have time to go to the beach, the park, that neat little bistro,
but while she was sitting there at the computer, she knew time was running out,
she knew there would never be another summer, another Christmas, another lazy Sunday,
and she chose to spend what time she had left with us so that she could make a difference.

I know that she worked hard to make the world a better place. I hope that
her work and Andy's work is remembered, because they labored for what
we used to take for granted: safe pet food, clean elections,
a healthy planet.

with her it was every pet was important, she cared about them and she thought that we were too careless with their lives, too
careless with the planet, & too careless with people's lives. She thought food for people was contaminated way ahead of
anyone else.

that Americans should just accept it.

170. OMG! I am so terribly sorry!
Nancy became a friend of mine during Katrina because she cared so much about the animals. And we became reacquainted during the pet food recall scare when she was so diligent in keeping us informed with the latest information. I mourned with her when she lost her beloved cat and she was always sympathetic about my ordeals with my own pets. I will miss her terribly, such a caring, kind and compassion person. I only wish that I'd known that she was suffering through such an ordeal of her own. Godspeed, my friend, and thank you for all you did on behalf of the animals...

297. You're welcome. I considered Nancy a friend and a kindred spirit.
I am too shocked for words. I wish that she'd told me. I lost my Dad to cancer. I know that she said she didn't have enough energy to keep up with her pet food recall threads, but I thought it was emotional, since she was still mourning her beloved 21-year-old cat. I also recently lost my little dog and she understood. I will certainly miss her and there are many conversations with her still in my head... Anyway, I wish her peace, and the loss of Nancy is a huge loss to DU, to the animals to whom she was so devoted, and to me...;(

318. I understand. I have gone through cancer with my father
and my aunt and my uncle. *sigh* I just wish that she'd let me know. Our communications became fewer and I still owe her one, knowing how well she would understand how I felt when I lost my little dog, as she had lost her beloved cat. And I wish so much that she had known how well-thought of that she was here, and how many kindred spirits and friends that she touched, including me. Thank you so much for getting back to me and for the information.;(

181. Bless her dear heart. She was a kind, intelligent and fun person.

She and I exchanged emails periodically and it was a delight. Just last week, I thought, what's up, we have not talked in a while. You know how that happens here, you go out of contact for a period, and it's usually no big deal, but I was quite aware of her condition. We talked about Zinga a lot and cats in general (very DU dialog of a type). She did adore that cat, which lived until it was 19 I believe.

Her life was a struggle to understand, to maintain her dignity, and to move forward. She was a great elections advocate and understood the issues precisely and with real depth.

I'm going to miss her, I already do.

Thank you Miss Waverly!

Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 04:53 PM by MissWaverly
and I don't care if they use stem cells or the eye of a potato to do it, those stem cells are all just thrown in the trash
after they bloviate about it. At least let them be used to help people like Nancy and Andy have normal lives.
Right to life for stem cells is not about life, it's about right to red bagged trash.

271. RIP
I was thinking.

I see these threads of DUers passing from time to time and I thought it would be nice to have a place where deceased DUers can be remembered in one place.

Now i know we already have a DU graveyard for disruptors... but why should they have a special place of remembrance?

I an not advocating we get rid of the DU graveyard just that we add a place where we could 'walk amongst the tombstones' if you will, and read about them through their posts and through other memories of them.

Just my two cents.

302. I am saddened by her passing.
I was told once that when a person is wholeheartedly committed to a project or a cause, their support is ongoing even after death.
She is now "up there" somewhere, her spirit still hard at work on the world she did in life. Her hand is no longer on the tiller but she guides us nonetheless, showing us the path she was on and making sure we follow her steps.
We pray that the departed may "rest in peace". Lets also pray she continues alongside us showing the way.

307. Condolences to those closest to her.
She touched us so deeply in this online community that knowing her face to face must count as one of life's great and fortunate blessings.

I know that I was blessed by having the light of her kindness and humor turned my way, however briefly.

She was an advocate for real election reform. She displayed concern for others' health problems even while she herself battled cancer. She deeply loved animals, and at the time worked daily to bring news and raise awareness of the crisis concerning tainted pet food that killed countless animals.

It was among her last posts here at DU.

Rest in peace dear Nancy. You inspired love and gave love...the best and greatest of all that we can ever do in this life.

Condolences to us all, and gratitude for having been touched by a beautiful and fervent soul.

317. when one grows their wings, we should all be grateful
when people, good people enter our lives and share the greatness of their life we should all be grateful. when one as this grows their wings and reaches the place we shall someday reach we should send our blessings and love as they I am sure are watching us and giving us encouragement. Blessings to her and blessings to you all.

I can't believe she is gone.

Just like autorank said, I feel sometimes, we miss the posts, or don't see certain Duers post for a while...or we ourselves are sidetracked elsewhere...and we somehow expect everyone to be around later.

I am sad we won't see her passionate posts anymore.
Her body may have given up but her spirit is now everywhere and anywhere she wishes.

Thank you nicknameless it was an honor to fight ER and other issues with you,

and thank you, Miss Waverly.

Much love to Nancy's family & friends

and we had a private joke, because I had long thought she was a specific man in Debra Bowen's office because how she so often posted their press releases.

I had no idea she was ill, but I'm sure she handled things the way she wanted to.

What a loss.
