Crap..look at these scores..and then look at how many people travel them each day/year they were built.
The below url has one bridge rating a *****2******. Not me doing a typo. It's 2. With 9400 people traveling it per day. All together, 175 bridges in the DFW have a score of LESS than 50

1. $3.2 million vs $100+ million, the choice seems obvious.
Well, it would for most people. But if politicians in Minnesota let it hide under a rug for up to 17 years...

I wonder what the weight ratings are, given the dates those bridges were built...

2. We should post these ratings right on the bridge, right there with
the speed limit and weight limit signs for the bridge.

3. That's nothing! Here in Portland, OR we have a bridge rated a 2!

6. Makes you wonder what a "2" consists of...
A few 4 by 4's held together with some silly putty, or what????
Guess their ratings aren't like restaurant ratings (too low after inspection and they get shut down)!

4. Do you have any idea where I might find a list to see how 'at risk' the
rest of the bridges in this country are?

That's really frightening considering what we saw in MN last week.

5. That's a good question..
I just found this because it was in our local paper...after the MN tragedy I'm surprised that more local media doesn't have their cities' info on the front page. I keep waiting for someone on the 'net to provide a link to a pdf/site with a complete list of the country's bridges ratings. Given what this local report has it's probably safe to say that any more extensive data is hidden in some federal safe and will never see the light of day given the post-tragedy outrage. What elected/appointed regime member will what to 'fess up to knowing the info and ratings now?

7. There're two '2's and a '4' and a '6' on that map.
I'm betting they're not in the 'better' neighborhoods ... where the 'better' people drive.

8. Ding, ding, ding...
You hit the nail on the head...I can't speak for the one's in Ft Worth cuz I don't live over that way but the single digit ones are in Dallas' lowest income area with the exception of one of them which looks to be out in a rural area. The larger cluster of 20-40's are also in downtown and South Dallas--still low income areas. The daily traffic stats are the scariest... i.e 17,000+ people using a "score of 4" bridge EVERY day?? Lots of (suburban) commuters who don't live in those areas use them to get to downtown jobs.
If Congress had a spine, they would open some sort of hearings and flash similiar stats from other cities up on a screen while state and federal officials sit there and try to justify them.
