Need help rebutting a letter to the editor
in today's Florida Times-Union. I'm happy to write the letter, but am at work and can't spend all day on Google gathering facts. Anyone want to help?

Here's the letter:
http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/020707/opl_7825412.shtml

and here are a few choice lines...

"Once again, the liberals have called for impeachment and blame President Bush for all that goes wrong in their lives.First, impeachment is for illegal activity, not for unpopular activity. The president has done nothing illegal, so forget that.

....Next, the reasons for war in Iraq have been validated many times over. The military found and disclosed the weapons of mass destruction (over 500 vials of deadly mustard and sarin gas agents, warheads, etc.) and the documents linking Saddam Hussein to al-Qaida.

....Finally, the Plame (non) affair: The courts have already publicly declared that Valerie Plame was not a covert agent and that her own husband disclosed her name."

Lots more nonsense at the link.

500 vials of mustard gas AND warheads? Son of a bitch!

Anyway, I'm not good at researching links and whatnot, so I can't help you. Sorry.

2. Some links

Iraq's WMDs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_and_weapons_of_mass_destruction

Plame http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/7/12/235811/128

The CIA declined to discuss Plame's intelligence work, but an agency official disputed suggestions that she was a mere analyst whose public exposure would have little consequence. "If she was not undercover, we would have no reason to file a criminal referral," the CIA official said, insisting on anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation.

3. Pointless. Whoever wrote that is too delusional to reason with.
And whoever BELIEVES it is just as bad.

4. I would ask the editor why they allow letters that clearly
just make shit up.

500 vials of mustard and sarin gas? where?
documents linking Iraq and Al Qaida?

at least my local paper, the editor will put his own comments (in italics) after such blatant lies and clear them up with facts. for example:

The military found and disclosed the weapons of mass destruction (over 500 vials of deadly mustard and sarin gas agents, warheads, etc.) and the documents linking Saddam Hussein to al-Qaida. no proof of any such weapons or documents have been confirmed by any agency - ed.

5. Some remarks
First, I would include towards the end of the rebuttal that Mr. Bureau must had gotten his teaching credentials from Karl Rove.

Article II Section 4 states: The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

Impeachment is nothing more than the filing of charges.

Reasons for impeachment can be found at this site:
Vote to Impeach Site

Reasons for war in Iraq has been validated many times over?

Rebuttal:

But intelligence officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the subject's sensitive nature, said the weapons were produced before the 1991 Gulf War and there is no evidence to date of chemical munitions manufactured since then. They said an assessment of the weapons concluded they are so degraded that they couldn't now be used as designed.

He said experts on Iraq's chemical weapons are in "almost 100 percent agreement" that sarin nerve agent produced from the 1980s would no longer be dangerous.

One official conceded that these pre-Gulf War weapons did not pose a threat to the U.S. military before the 2003 invasion of Iraq. They were not maintained or part of any organized program run by Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

When did the courts rule that Valerie Plame was not a covert agent and that her own husband disclosed her name? If so, then why is Special Prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald still investigating the CIA leak?

The Senate reported in September of 2006 that there is no evidence former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had any relationship with the al-Qaida.

7. Newsweek Feb 13, 2006
The CIA Leak: Plame Was Still Covert
by Michael Isikoff

" ...special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald found that Plame had indeed done 'covert work overseas' on counterproliferation matters in the past five years, and the CIA 'was making specific efforts to conceal' her identity, according to newly released portions of a judge's opinion."

One might challenge the author of the LTTE quoted to name the "courts" that have said that Plame was not covert, or that Wilson exposed her. It has never happened, of course.

8. Basically every single
sentence in the letter is untrue. If you feel like doing the research to rebut every single one, it could probably be done in an hour or so. What this guy has done is simply listened to Rush Limbaugh and Bush's State of the Union speeches without ever questioning a single word.

10. Says he is a teacher

Thats what it says at the bottom next to his name... everything else is a lie so i suppose that is a lie too

Or I HOPE its a lie... or their schools are in really really bad shape

And the title is a big bucket of irony:

" Liberals: Stop ignoring the facts"

And i agree with the other poster who said the newspaper should be taken to task for printing such blatant lies with no disclaimer.
