Poll question: Just suppose, the 08 elections come and go and it's 09 and we are still in Iraq...

2. We will still be in Iraq in '09 no matter what.
We won't just walk out on January 21st. It'll take months, and no matter what we'll have a presence in Iraq for decades.

No matter who gets elected.

3. I hope that I will think:
"I'm glad President Gore and Vice-President Clark are on the job and getting them out." Beyond that, "We should have impeached the bastards."

4. Well we need to define terms
When in 2009? Big difference between 1/21 and 12/31. How many are still in Iraq and in what context? Big difference between 165000 in active occupation and a few thousand in security/training (we are after all still in Korea, and Germany, and England, and Japan, and so on, and while personally I'm not sure we should be, it's not exactly the horror of the ages that we are)

But in the spirit of your ever-so-unbiased question I will answer honestly. If by late 2009 we are still actively fighting as 6-figure strong occupying force, then either we lost the election because enough people defected to fringe candidates or stayed home, or something changed dramatically in the political and military situation in IRaq that means we need to be there, or yes wait for it.....there is one policy area in which the Dem winner agrees with the current administration.

Frankly I consider the least alternative to be the most unlikely.

Why do I get the feeling that this is setting up an "I told you so! Hillary is just like Cheney!!" if we still have a couple hundred Marines securing a US toehold in the region by the end of 09.

6. What do you mean 'we'?
And we should already have impeached.

7. Politicians have a great need to save face. We'll still be there.
Until they can come up with some way of getting out without admitting being defeated.
