I know that Tammy Faye advocated for gay youths and helped people with HIV/AIDS...
but can anyone tell me what good works she actually did?

2. Someone here last night said she reached out to the gay community
and became an advocate for them.

and justly so.

4. I think being a public advocate for people with AIDS in the 1980's was a good work.
The president didn't even say the word until his final year in office. Most people were too scared to even admit it existed. Tammy Faye went into the AIDS wards at hospitals and talked to those who were dying.
What's "not good" about that?

5. The OP is a riff off of some people's thickheadedness over this issue. nt

6. I think it's good.
I think it's redeeming. But some people at DU don't consider that sufficient enough redemption for her part in the PTL scandal.

Not a TFB fan -- just curious.

8. Well, I don't know.
I guess that advocacy for gay rights and HIV patients isn't sufficiently established as "good works."

12. LOL! Assholery? Nah.
I am an IT dork. n00b to the political debates, but not to the 'net.

Your response was spot on and anyone reading the thread with their head in the right place would see that. My bad sis/bro

Thanks for the welcome -- I will be here as long as I can stomach another 'this corporate candidate against that one' debate or we actually get REFORM in the District of Corruption.

Have a good week.

11. i gotchyer back on this one.
she reached out to the some of the people most in need -- at a time when not enough did.

we appreciated her courage -- and she came to really love us.

and we loved her back.

isn't that the whole point to redemption?

you fall -- you get up and you go on.

and she did it in full make up.

13. Nah, that's no big deal at all.
As opposed to that spreading intolerance and bigotry message that some "Christians" preach.

Jesus, the past couple of days has been "talking to a brick wall" time with some people around here.

14. "The Eyes of Tammy Faye"
changed my whole attitude toward this woman. I found her spirit to be much more righteous than most of the Democrats in Congress.

15. And don't forget her season of "The Surreal Life." I gained great respect for her from that. n/t
