And yet get pushed away by politicians that have no business running this country to begin with.

Some lunatics killed 3,000 of our people once - so why are we, IN GODS NAME in Iraq??

Those people that did that thing - we will hunt them down forever. They will not walk away from that. WE AGREE ON THAT!!

That could have been my city - or yours.

Besides -we are americans - we were born in violence - there is no other country so distinctly qualified to teach those people a harsh lesson.

Americans are kinda slow - but we are not stupid either.

Joe

5. I'm ok-
I'll be a lot better soon.

I don't know - we get things to read - sometimes - and if you really knew what you were looking for -

well - scares the hell out of me sometimes.

I appreciate your time you know.

Nice of you to respond this way.

Joe

2. I recommend
Al Gore's book The Assault on Reason. It's a refreshing reminder that given better options we could more functionally agree (as well as functionally disagree) and keep our country great and safe.

In other words, I really agree when you write "And yet get pushed away by politicians that have no business running this country to begin with."

3. The problem with power is
it attracts the very people who should never be given it.

4. Power attracts the corruptible...
THAT is more of a truism than "power corrupts," which is also a truism sometimes.

10. Amen
With almost any employment interview, one of the biggest hurdles is psychological testing. Why shouldn't that be the case for elected representatives? I can't think of a position that should require it more. These are people whose decisions affect the lives of as many and more people than most jobs ever could. Hell, why shouldn't the same be true for corporate executives and board members?

12. What?
And do away with the beauty pageants we call elections?

Your candidate spent more on hair extensions than mine did on breast enlargement, so yours is clearly unable to lead the behemoth we call the United States.

And my candidates breasts now provide more shade and the savings to the environment in lowered air conditioning consumption and the lowered Co2 emissions shows my candidate is a friend of the environment.

Enough already.

7. Sorry, but the better question is; "Why is this Administration" still...
squatting in the White House? They were never elected (Vote by the USSC gave them occupancy) and as far as I know they stole the 2004 election. So why are they still there? The reason, the American people refuse to stand up and hit the streets. If this were to happen, it would all be over in a heart beat.. ie: Proper Health Insurance, Iraq war over, big business put back in their place, and on and on and on... Until the people rise up, get out of their comfortable chairs and take to the streets... your doomed...

11. Remember what I said -
we are a little slow as a socitey - admitted.

But we get it eventually and we are equally thorough.

There was a time - sickles - he went venturing in front of union lines at Gettysburg - stuck out like a sore thumb. Hancock rode out and said watch him tumble back - but Meade rode up and said wish that it were so.

Of course Meade was right - so now we have the wheat field and peach orchard to study.

This is all about the war - you see??

13. You would think??
But it is not true,

I watched my brother litterally get spit on at the airport and then go directly into an anti war rally - really.

That whole vision - it stuck in my mind.

I don't forgive it.

Know why I wanted Kerry? -not because CLark gave him a green light.

Oh no - cause I knew he knew what it meant to be shit on from both sides, Put kids lives at risk - he knows. And he was so brave.!!

Oh -

Yeah I am ok -

- you know I like him (Kerry) - but there was that time he had to fight it out - and he did not. It is NOT that I ever thought he was not ok - just that he didn't fight. I know he has been to the show.

He won a Silver Star for gods sake!!!!

What - when the SOB was drunk in Texas??

I have no issue with John Kerry - he is a great man - that probably saved a lot of kids - and there is nothing greater than that.

Joe

9. I have the theory that we've been intentionally manipulated
away from politics to allow the power structure to do what they wanted free of dealing with the unwashed masses. The lack of media presentation of in-depth reporting on critical government functions, the starving of the education system to help dumb us down, judicial decisions equating created legal entities to a human citizen and equating their financial influence equal to free speech.

I consider myself to be a perfect example of the effect of those influences. My political involvement didn't occur until March 19, 2003. I knew then I could no longer accept the BS I was being fed and had to find the info I needed without regard to the effort, the alternative was too costly. I couldn't that the digression of "elected" officials would be tempered by the desire not to be exposed as power-mad arrogant greedy SOB's. It sucks being that naive.

I've seen how other non-political types deal with the situation. Some are too tired from running the treadmill and figure they can't change things anyway. Others are fat and happy and figure whatever the government does, life is still good for them so why get all worked up about it? That's just the way it is.

Just the other day, I had a long afternoon discussion with a bunch of the old farts I spend time with. Most are older, retired, and basically working class. Some with pretty good educations, but they all bought into the simplistic story being sold by government and corporate media. Still they all knew that thing were definitely FUBAR, but their reasons were all based on the simple story they'd been sold. It took a few hours to get some lights to go off in their heads, but they did start thinking. I'm sure it will take many similar sessions to have any great effects, but you have to keep trying.

Hang in there Joe, it takes all of us with whatever we can do. One step at a time no matter how small is still progress.

14. You've been on my mind alot over the last week+ Joe.

Hubby had the tv on network earlier, and I saw Jeri Ryan. Lovely Jeri Ryan, former "Borg" from Star Trek Voyager, and previously (or still?) married to Jack (?) Ryan, former Repuke Congresscritter that wanted her to perform sex acts with him in public at a club. Wow. Back to acting for a living. And her husband was assisting in ruining the country.

Hope you are feeling better. Hope you are getting good news from abroad.

15. Oh - I don't think I feel bad -
like resigned.

Couldn't do anything more (execpt accepting the enlistiment in the first place, I guess).

No - it is hard - you respect your kids for showing backbone and then

regret they ever did -

Being a parent I guess.

Joe
