Warning to cute girls who are wannabee "beauty queens" or who expect to get jobs later on in life
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 03:05 PM by SoCalDem
and the same warning to guys too..especially "rowdy" college boys

TIMES HAVE CHANGED..

In days past, the only "evidence" of your shenanigans may have been some fuzzy polaroids, taken by a drunken friend ..(these often had more of the photographers thumb in the picture than anything else)... and of course there was always here-say 'evidence'.. (OHMYGOD-YOU-SHOULD-HAVE-BEEN-THERE.. SO AND SO DID THIS AND THAT...)

These days young people should be SURE that EVERYTHING they do when they are "out & about" WILL end up on-line in someone's blog or on You Tube or MY Face (or whatever it's called)

Employers DO use the internet to search for this sort of thing, as do rivals for jobs you may want. teachers look, school administrators look..everyone you KNOW looks.

You LIVE a public life these days, and you can not deny anything that shows a picture of you DOING it..

There are things we all have done in our young lives that seem perfectly normal and fun at the time....but when you grow up a bit and especially when you have children, these things make you cringe.

Who wants to have their 10 yr old son looking at pictures of Mommy kissing some drunk guy in his underpants? or of Mommy blitzed out of her mind, dancing half-naked at a party?

Employers, colleges and universities, the press - everybody googles anybody applying for anything nowadays.

I tell my teenage sons that the last thing they need is a photo of them doing something stupid or illegal on the internet. I also tell them to be very careful about what they write, too.

part of being free is owning your actions and not being ashamed of them. if you let yourself be ruled by fear of everyone else's opinions then you are truly a prisoner with no hope of freedom. better to live on your feet standing, warts and all, being proud of who you are.

man was before she got suckered into marrying him. That would have been nothing but heartache.

And, yes, I realize being engaged isn't marriage, but it should be the "test," you know.

I'm so glad I'm married to my guy. He wouldn't dream of cheating on me... well, he might DREAM, but he wouldn't do it. :7

9. if you don't have a life the photos will be "shopped" anyway, this is dumb advice
the problem w. giving up your youth and not living your life because someday "they" will know you were once young is that photographs are easily shopped

hell there were sex photos supposedly associated w. my MOM sent around the fabulous internets a few years ago and it is not because she ever posed nude or participated in facebook or friendster, which probably didn't even exist then, it's because her industry is a competitive one, she is a female, and photos are very easily faked

life is too short to live worrying about nasty photos of yourself on the net, i've never posed doing the nasty, nor has my mom, and yet these photos will be produced by the jealous or the envious anyway

the only "cure" for this is to not be cute, not to have any money, not to ever have a rival in love or business

ya just can't live like that

next?

and by the way don't forget, everything you did in fifth grade IS in your permanent record

I always told my boys that they should always think before they acted.. and the first thought might be "Would I like this on the front page of the newspaper "

18. indeed
by far the better advice is to delete any references that you yourself have made. lock your myspace, lock your facebook, delete your blog (or make it anonymous) if there is anything on there that might be too embarrassing. something that someone else attributes to you "Jane is such a slut, she got drunk and pulled a train on the lacrosse team" is going to carry a lot less weight than your blog saying "wow, I am such a slut, I got drunk and pulled a train on the lacrosse team."

15. The background check is now the employer's best friend. If you
receive a DUI or anything that's going to get you in front of a judge, remember this will follow you around for many a year. That old saw about "getting it expunged" is not as easy as that. If the case was heard and you were guilty, look for a job without background checks and good luck... If you were found innocent consult an attorney. Easier to just not do anything stupid...

It is very true - people are putting up all manner of stupid pics on Myspace, facebook, etc. not thinking of the consequences. They don't think anyone will see it. But the do, and they will. All it takes is a quick name search and bam.

41. Someday we will be troubled by people who DON'T have an internet past.
I can see an employer thinking, "hmmm... I wonder what this guy is hiding..." if she is unable to find a person's foolishness in the inane clutter of the internet. After all, employers will have internet pasts too.

Someday we'll have a President who wins in part because of, and not in spite of, some risque' pictures posted years before on the internet. Maybe voters will wonder why her opponent seems to be hiding his internet past, especially if he hasn't got one.

Ah, but what do I know? I've never been shy about writing my mind or skinny-dipping.

50. no hunter you are correct
i wouldn't hire someone who didn't exist on the internet, i got to assume they have something BIG to hide (witness protection program BIG or david vitter diaper fetish BIG)

normal people either have sex lives or even if they don't if they're even moderately successful in their careers then someone has pasted a fake blog about them or a fake sex scene starring them out of pure-dee jealousy

as for the person who thinks that "yeah but it's easy to tell when it's fake" they are dreaming -- the people who have never had lives or the people who are not going to hire you anyway have this little theory of "where there is smoke there is fire"

you cannot live your life to please the prudes and if you do all you do is cheat yourself of your one and only life

as far as only the young being affected by this, my mom was in her late 50s when the pornos were sent around -- you never get so old that nobody is jealous of you unless you have never lived at all

You can't allow yourself to be controlled by that fear.

A lot of what is wrong with the Republican leadership is that they have unusual fetishes which they use against each other to maintain loyalty within the party.

It's pretty obvious that the Bush Administration is held together by such threats -- silent whispers of "don't go against us or we'll open up your closet for all the world to see..."

Welcome to J. Edger Hoover world.

45. i do keep a rather obfuscated life, but i'm all for lenient appreciation of party behavior
i think drug use, wild, wanton sex, and all the other wonderful things in bacchanals should be celebrated and savored by society.

when co-workers are being smeared by some bullshit 'background check' in office politics our culture should respond "that's wonderful! wish i was there!" if people are worried about children looking at 'the evidence' remember that children would rather gouge out their own eyes than see evidence that their parents are sexual beings. i think it's an overreaction to worry about these things. in fact, it's an indictment that we worry even this much.

how to explain such things to your kids? easy: "Well Britney Lee, mommy's human and she had a lot of fun in her youth." done. trust me, the children wouldn't dare flip through the albums so freely after that. and if your coworkers see such stuff and ask, just grin slyly and "jealous? 'cause otherwise you wouldn't bother to ask..." that should shut most of them up.

i never understood the puritanical nature of america... pleasure is nothing to be afraid of.

Fuckers snapped it before I could put the blunt (one of the very few I've ever smoked) down. Worse, it turns out there was a 60+ naked old guy standing in the shot.

Could be worse. There's another shot of the naked old guy sprawled next to some chick. She was borderline passed-out, and he was pulling on his dong. I can offer a good excuse. She's going to have trouble.

I swear, who thinks it's a good idea to take pics at a geek/goth party?
