That "guest worker" provision would have amounted to little more than indentured servitude for too many hopeful immigrants from Mexico and Central America. So for that reason alone, I'm glad Herr Decider didn't get his immigration bill.

But some of my fellow DUers probably disagree. Please prove me wrong...

2. Few on DU supported it

If you examine the DU polls only 20% supported the bill.

Americans of all political persuasions ...from Democrats to Republicans to Independents did not support it. What you had was few with their own agendas such as Ted Kennedy, George Bush and John McCain who wanted it passed.

This wasn't a Democratic bill. This was a bill where some politicians saw self interest either for themselves or their well connected rich business friends.....at the expense of Mexican citizens and US workers.

3. I completely agree with you!
No matter how they spin it, including blame the victim, all it would have done is legitimize the "slave labor" that has been going on for decades.

4. The other reason it sucked was...
That everyone would have had to have gotten working papers from the DHS, giving them permission to be hired for a job.

Way out of line, that was.

5. The bill reminded me of the joke which defines as camel
as a horse that was put together by a committee. It had something for everyone to the extent that it became self-contradictory. But it isn't really a defeat for Georgie--the status quo serves his corporate backers just as well. I knew this bill wasn't going anywhere.
