lately,I didn't realize there were so many people who are mentally unstable. Everyone seems to be out of control, schools, religion, parents microwaving children and animals,children killing parents and the opposite, and pedophiles are coming out of the wood work. Is there something in the food or water?

Other than new means, human nature hasn't changed all too much. It's just the media is reporting more bizare news scenarios.

Plus, statistics show school and domestic violence are going down. You wouldn't guess that by watching our beloved 'liberal media'.

... the 24/7 sensationalist "news" shows are spending predominantly more time on these types of stories than the real news of the FUBAR'd Blivet Misadministration and its crimes.

It's the new 'bright shiny object' for people to stare at and talk about while the robber barons bleed the country dry behind their backs.

turning in on itself. When a country has immoral, malevolent, lying, greedy psycopaths as its leaders, it releases a general psychc miasma that effects everyone. For some people, it's just enough extra mental & emotional toxicity to drive them over the edge.

filling air time with the bizarre and titilating. Back in the 50's a lot of similar shit happened, it just wasn't ballyhooed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Often such stories only merited a brief mention if any mention at all. There were school shootings and child abuse etc. Actually things that should have been highlighted weren't.
