A vote of no confidence seems every bit as useless as impeachment.

What's the point of a vote of no confidence other than publicly stating the obvious? Especially if nothing happens after the vote. Same with impeachment. The only impeachment that really meant anything was when they impeached Johnson two centuries back.

What good did it really do to impeach President William Jefferson Clinton, other than humiliate him? He was still the president, and his popularity ratings were through the roof all during his impeachment. SO WHAT if we impeach bush or not, what good would it really do? Would it have any teeth? Would bush actually leave office if impeached?

Although I've called for impeachment of bush all along, I just wonder if it would be worth the trouble. If you tell bush he shouldn't do something, he still does it. If you tell him he's breaking the law, he scoffs and says fuck you.

If the Democrats vote no confidence in alberto's job as attorney general, so what? I have no confidence in bush, I have no confidence in gonzales, and I have no confidence in our elected Democratic leaders. Color me inconfident.

1. The value is a symbolic one I admit

It's rubbing Bush's nose in his failures; underlining for those of our fellow citizens who haven't figured it out yet, that Bush is kind of a bad guy.

3. I have heard that the no confidence vote would preclude any future
(or this) president from nominating Gonzales to the Supreme Court which would be disastrous.

4. The trial of Clinton in the Senate
established well that there was no high crime or misdemeanor. A trial of Gonzales would be the polar opposite, a public record of his crimes would be created. It would have the benefit of identifying those members of the senate who support the rank corruption. The situations are in no way parallel, but I do agree that the "no confidence" vote is a humiliation, but disagree that Gonzales is humiliated, rather the Senators with no courage have disgraced themselves.

Nothing would be better than this charade.

5. Nothing that gets the Senate on record officially censuring
Chimpy, Gonzales, or anyone else in this admin is a waste, even if it doesn't have immediate impact or results in removal of anyone from office. Really, it's all they're going to have to point to when future generations look back at the worst Presidency ever and wonder why everyone just went along with the corruption and misdeeds.
