Can someone point me to Democratic Underground?
I think I've been redirected to free republic. This place is becoming intolerable. It's almost as bad as during the primaries around here. WTF??

It's one thing to have some constructive criticism of Obama. But it's another thing to go batshit crazy over every damn move he makes. It's as if people are just looking for something to bash Obama about.

Yeah. Let's tear down our own nominee and let sad sack, crazy old coot McCain be president and get us into another war.

Obama not only has to go up against the slimy republicans. He has to defend himself from the base of his own Party. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

8. Oh... I didn't know that.
So it's like a "real DUers only club". I like that!

6. welcome to DU

yes there are vast numbers of us but there are also a significant but active group that is interested in some type of ideological purity.

Of course none of us really agree what that purity really is so it gets pretty banal.

Just find threads that you like and avoid the ones that you don't

4. I don't think the rabid reactionaries in DU represent anyone's base....
Edited on Tue Jul-01-08 11:52 AM by PRT
By reactionary I mean that's all they seem capable of. Knee-jerk reactions. I BELIEVE in constructive criticism; I think it makes better candidates (and Presidents) if its vocalized in the context of unequivocal support. (I liken it to Obama's comment about patriotic dissent yesterday.) So I'd like to think that DU could have a positive, progressive role to play in this campaign. But just the opposite is now happening. What sort of base does DU represent? Not one any democratic candidate (however progressive) could found a campaign on. Fortunately, DU is most likely to sink under the radar as an abyss for malcontents. Sad.

On a more positive note, I hope this forum can be constructive in coalition building (outside of DU if not within it).

9. They are really nuts tonight.
I just put a couple of posters on ignore. I understand being upset with Obama, but there are some people over in GDP who are using this opportunity to continue the primary fighting.

It's like they don't want Obama to win.

11. Reminds me of Gore v. Bush - they are the same thing so who cares, right? It doesn't really matter

12. I'm waiting for one of them to start a thread saying either
"I told you so" or Obama=McCain=Bush. Hell, they probably already did, and I just missed it.

I really don't get it. Some of them are positively giddy. I mean, I don't agree with Obama on everything, but I didn't expect to. Some of those posters are just insane. There was one poster who insinuated that Obama couldn't be trusted to select Supreme Court justices. Obama is light years better than McCain. What more do they want? He is our nominee.

13. my goodness
i am so completely sick of the threads on the main board. it really seems like this is actually an anti-obama website. i thought vitriol against the nominee was not allowed. unfortunately, it seems all the other progressive sites are doing the same. maybe i should start my summer reading list.

:argh:

14. I feel your pain.
And I do not recall it being remotely this bad for Kerry 4 years go. I was a sad Deaniac back then, and I don't remember this kind of venom from the rest of the board who had not supported Kerry from the beginning. I really don't understand the atmosphere at all.

I held out hope through the long and nasty primary, feeling so confident that once it was won, we'd be on the same team. Sadly, I no longer expect that to happen, and I suddenly find myself on the other side of a barrier... I used to wish the majority of the country WAS like DU because we were generally more progressive and more informed than the general public... but now I am grateful that DU is a tiny minority subset of US society.

15. Oh yes, it was here
Many of the same people who trashed him then are trashing Obama now. Go figure. I think once the Obama supporters figure out what's going on, they'll regroup and understand the fight will never end. I wish I knew what to do about it. It's one thing to express disappointment over something and even plan some methods to change public opinion, it's another to throw the candidate overboard. As if Hillary or Edwards wouldn't have done the exact same thing on FISA and faith-based initiatives.
