Teddy is ready to endorse? (Developing story at The Page)
http://thepage.time.com/2008/01/27/teddy-is-ready/

I'll believe it when I see it, but this source for the rumor is promising. Mark Halperin (I'm no fan) is the ultimate DC insider.

1. More convincing is the transcript from "This Week."
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 11:36 AM by No Surrender
I'd call Obama's answer to Stepho's question a non-denial denial. On edit - or maybe a better phrase would be a non-confirming confirmation.

OBAMA: Well, you know, I’ll let Ted Kennedy speak for himself. And
nobody does it better. But obviously, any of the Democratic candidates
would love to have Ted Kennedy’s support. And we have certainly
actively sought it.

And you know, I will let him make his announcement and his decision
when he decides it’s appropriate.

Here's hoping...:bounce:

2. Reads almost like
"yes, but not today". Mentioned now in the page linked to in the OP as "Obama with a non-denial — and a non-pokerface — on “This Week” :-)

7. that's the message I inferred, too. : )
Since at least 4/6 of the MA House members have come out for Hillary (including, inexplicably to me, even Barney Frank), it would be nice to have BOTH MA senators clearly on board for Barack.
Especially since it's already so obvious that Teddy is leaning that way.

5. Another Conservative Democrat endorsing Obama...
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 02:38 PM by Mass
(Sorry, could not resist). This is great news. With 2 senators and a governor endorsing Obama and the local establisment endorsing Clinton, it puts MA on the map once again. And, where I live, there are not that many Clinton bumper stickers (though none of my neighbours support him: he supports Edwards and his wife Hillary...).

14. That's nothing
In case you did not see it (and there is NO reason you should), there is a thread in VDP equating Teddy with Larry Craig.

6. More here
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2008/01/ted_kennedy_end.html

~snip~

Senator Edward M. Kennedy will endorse Barack Obama for president tomorrow, breaking his year-long neutrality to send a powerful signal of where the legendary Massachusetts Democrat sees the party going -- and who he thinks is best to lead it.

Kennedy confidantes told the Globe today that the Bay State's senior senator will appear with Obama and Kennedy's niece, Caroline Kennedy, at a morning rally at American University in Washington tomorrow to announce his support.

That will be a potentially significant boost for Obama as he heads into a series of critical primaries on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5.

10. Shocker!!
I really did not think he would endorse. My husband thinks it was that Jesse Jackson comment that did it, the knowledge that the Clintons would just not stop with their vitriolic garbage. Who knows. Who cares! It's AWESOME!!!

12. I suspect that the timing might have been planned
I wonder if the idea was to bring in the high powered endorsement in phases as necessary.

First Kerry endorses going into New Hampshire. Caroline Kennedy endorses last night, leading to Ted Kennedy on Monday going into Super Tuesday.

15. Endorsing "in phases"
wasn't that mentioned after the Kerry endorsement?

13. Your husband was correct. This is incredible:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/01/27/sen_kennedy_to_endorse_obama_1.html

The elder Kennedy's decision came after weeks of mounting frustration with the Clintons over campaign tactics, particularly comments that seemed to carry racial overtones. Kennedy expressed those frustrations directly to former president Clinton, but to no apparent avail. Yesterday afternoon, as Obama was racking up a South Carolina rout, the former president compared his wife's chief opponent to Rev. Jesse Jackson, who won South Carolina twice, in 1984 and 1988, when it was a caucus state.

Bill Clinton is the reason for this endorsement by Teddy. Hillary should NEVER have let him run loose on the campaign trail.

16. I think former President Clinton has not done his wife any favors.
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 04:41 PM by wisteria
It is very troubling when he continues to do as he pleases and continues with disparaging remarks and smears. The Jackson comment was very cynical. It does appear this blow-out win by Sen. Obama has gotten under Clinton's skin.
And, now I understand that the Clinton's are going to ignore the DNC rules and campaign in Florida. Wow, they are making the choice of Senator Obama a very easy one for a lot of people.

11. A real blow to the Clinton legacy
Bill Clinton has used the picture of meeting JFK in the Rose Garden as being symbolic of him later taking the torch as president. In a sense Caroline and Ted Kennedy are echoing Lloyd Benson in telling Clinton that he is no John Kennedy. I have a post on this aspect of the endorsement:

17. There was a time when Clinton offered the hope and change of JFK.
I am not ready to go as far as to say that President Clinton was no John Kennedy. President Clinton brought a lot to our party in the beginning and he still remains a likable president with high favorables. President Kennedy wasn't in office long enough to compare how he would have faired if he had been able to serve even a full term let alone two.
