The opposition stronghold of Benghazi in eastern Libya has been the scene of intense fighting as forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi have battled to take back the city.

Many civilians have been caught in the violence.

Al Jazeera English's Tony Birtley met a young boy who suffered a bullet wound to the chest and lungs as he and his parents tried to escape Gadaffi's forces when they entered Benghazi last Saturday. His young brother was wounded in the leg and his father died in hospital a day later. His mother remains critically ill.

This is the original story (I got his age wrong): http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x565310

1. That is beyond SAD!!
The rage I feel toward those who could gun down an entire family like this goes beyond describing! I am not one for violence but I picture that being me & my family & human nature takes over!

I wish that boy all the luck in the world & I hope his mother can pull through with the very limited care she will have...I could only image what would have happened to them had Gaddafi's forces made it into Benghazi. Hopefully they will not have to see that day!!
