We've been talking for a long time about concerning legislation, proposals, bills related to women's health and safety and women's health care, and a lot of them circle around abortion. And for a long time, I've said that really, why are the Republican politicians who make a career out of saying the government should be doing less and getting less involved in people's lives, why are they getting so involved?
And in Nebraska, this is sick, twisted, but totally predictable, because a lot of these conservatives have been emboldened by the recent string of extreme proposals. Nebraska's new abortion law forced Danielle Deaver to live through 10 excruciating days waiting to give birth to a baby that her doctors and she knew would die minutes later, and that's exactly what happened. That is exactly what happened. Deaver and her husband watched hoping she wasn't suffering, and the sponsor of the controversial Nebraska statute, Mike Flood of Norfolk, said that the law worked as it was intended in Deaver's case. "Even in these situations where the baby has a terminal condition or there's not much chance of surviving outside of the womb, my point has been and remains that
is still a life."
It's incredible. Remember, Louis, conservatives don't like the government intruding on their lives, except when it intrudes...
Louis: Except when it comes to their social agenda.
David: Except when it intrudes on someone who doesn't share their religious beliefs. The mother believes... not mothers in general, Danielle Deaver believes that such a decision should have belonged to her and to her husband, and she said, "It was very frustrating and added to our grief because the waiting compounded everything," she told the AP. Pro-life, right? But so heartless that it really boggles the mind. I don't know what else we can say.
Louis: Neither do I.
David: Except that we're seeing this time and time again, and this is just one case where... it leaves you speechless, really.
Louis: Literally.
David: Let's take a break, we'll all regroup, we'll come back. There's so much more to talk about, including David Morey's strategies for progressives. www.Facebook.com/DavidPakmanShow. Like the show on Facebook. Be back after this.
