1. Many thanks for posting this! A great follow up to my thread from
Edited on Fri Jan-07-11 01:13 AM by forty6
yesterday, where, unfortunately, Youtube had taken down the original video for "copyright reasons"!

Wishing this man great success from his honesty and humility and his talents.

I think there's a bit of "political" lesson here for us all, (regarding the homeless, second chances, and human dignity) but the jury is still out as to what this may have taught us all.

2. Welcome to DU.....
And if you search long enough you can find a video that can't be taken down i.e a private post, not a mainstream one.

3. I hope he does well and I think he will....
While I too was upset at a few posts from yesterday that seemed to cast Mr. Williams off totally, I'd prefer to focus on what I think were the majority of DUers wanting to see him get his second chance and to succeed.

4. Hmmm.....
Faux Noise Didn't do much with this story, I guess they couldn't find enough dirt
or because a black man did good with his life.
but if they do , he will be the third black panther party member to scare the fuck
out of brain dead regressives.

5. Having traveled that
same road myself and years (28 and counting) in recovery it really is one day at a time. Best of luck to Mr. Williams.

7. Congratulations
And welcome to DU, kaffy4x4! 28 years is mighty impressive, but it really just is One Day at a Time. I have 20 months, one week and three days (but who's counting? LOL), and it was learning that which got me there. I agree with you about Mr. Williams and we're glad to have you with us here on DU! :hi:

6. Bless his heart...
I've followed this story from the git go... Just like I did with Susan Boyle's story...

Ted is an inspiration... I'm impressed with his honesty and humbleness... I'm sure there are skeletons in his closet... I hope not so many that deprive him of a second chance.

I hope he gets really good advice, because the sudden success could crush him and his 90 year old mother.

I do get a good feeling... He seems sharp and articulate, yet somewhat childlike... Whereas, I became uncomfortable after awhile upon learning more about Susan Boyle and her awkwardness.

And, I do agree with some observations... He does look like weathered version of Barrack Obama... Looks like that discussion was edited out of this clip above.. But, Ted told Matt & Meredith that he was getting such comments, but he didn't want to "disgrace the commander-and-chief" by acknowledging them.

8. What I don't understand is????????
Why don't we help all homeless people? Why should this guy get all this attention and gifts and everything when there are many people in need. This guy said he was in this position because of drugs and alcohol. Why aren't we helping people in need.

10. Sobriety is a wonderful gift in numerous ways. The fog is lifted, the
brain begins to function again, and if you're lucky enough to have a sponsor-type person in your life to help guide you back, one day at a time, you've struck life gold. I'd love to see someone with media savvy, someone who really knows this business but who is also in recovery to be a close companion to Ted. He will become overwhelmed at times with the onslaught of offers and other business dealings. A good media savvy companion would be such an asset for him. Don't under estimate Ted, he's been in this business for a while and knows the pitfalls, it's getting that "decision making" part of his being back into full gear that is one of the jobs personally facing him. Happy 24 Ted..

12. I heard him say in an interview that he "talks to his guy every day..."- he almost said "sponsor"...
i think maybe he didn't for the sake of the anonymity of the guy. I can just see someone pressing him/friends HARD to "get" the name of his sponsor. Tabloid schmucks as Assange would say.

Good for him!

11. Best of luck to Ted
unfortunately, in the real world (where the "media" does not promote you) the unemployed MUST PASS credit and background checks before they are even considered for low paid jobs. We all know that if the "media" hadn't decided to promote Ted, he would be hopelessly unemployed, like so many other Americans.
Credit checks in this economy! WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT. It is who you know, not what you know. Just like it was (is) in the former USSR.....
