May 17, 2010 — Shortly after 2pm EST on Monday, May 17, 2010, over one hundred Massachusetts residents converged on Senator Scott Browns office accusing him voting against financial reform and job creation, breaking his campaign promise to be a big tent Republican who represents all people in Massachusetts. The action was the final event of the Showdown on K Street, where thousands of Americans from across the country protested corporate and anti-immigrant lobbyists who are standing in the way of vital financial reforms.
The Massachusetts voters who demonstrated in Sen. Browns office — representatives of the Alliance to Develop Power in Springfield, MA — noted that while on the campaign trail, Brown promised to fight against big bank bailouts but as Senator has acted in lockstep with the financial industry. Most recently, Sen. Brown voted against the Brown-Kaufman safe banking amendment, which would break up the big banks and benefit average Americans and the economy.
Scott Brown promised a big tent but apparently hes only letting Wall Street fat cats inside it. The average citizens of Massachusetts are being left out in the cold, said Alliance to Develop Power Co‐Chair Andrea Goldman of Greenfield, MA. We need more jobs for working people, not more favors for big banks. And since Senator Brown wouldnt come meet with us to discuss his voters needs, we came to him.
