1. What do these people want, who knock on my door at dawn?
Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 07:41 PM by Xipe Totec
At dawn they knocked,
from the top of the stairs;
a mother comes to the door
still wearing her evening robes.

What do these people want,
who knock on my door at dawn?

- Is your son still here?
- He is still in his bed.
What do you want with my son?
As the son rises from his bed.

What do these people want,
who knock on my door at dawn?

Little does the mother realize
of all the hopes and dreams
of her student son
already compromised and betrayed.

What do these people want,
who knock on my door at dawn?

For days he has been quiet,
and agitated at night.
trembling in fright,
waiting for a knock on the door at dawn.

What do these people want,
who knock on my door at dawn?

Not fully awake,
he clearly hears the call
and jumps out the window
to the street at full run.

What do these people want,
who knock on my door at dawn?

The ones who call are stunned,
except one, perhaps the leader,
who looks out through the window,
the mother screaming behind him.

What do these people want,
who knock on my door at dawn?

At dawn they knocked,
The law has marked the hour.
Now the student is dead,
dead from a knock at dawn.

What do these people want,
who knock on my door at dawn?

In the Original Catalan:

De matinada han trucat,
són al replà de l'escala;
la mare quan surt a obrir
porta la bata posada.

Què volen aquesta gent
que truquen de matinada?

"El seu fill, que no és aquí?"
"N'és adormit a la cambra.
Què li volen al meu fill?"
El fill mig es desvetllava.

La mare ben poc en sap,
de totes les esperances
del seu fill estudiant,
que ben compromès n'estava.

Dies fa que parla poc
i cada nit s'agitava.
Li venia un tremolor
tement un truc a trenc d'alba.

Encara no ben despert

2. That was disturbing.
It probably happens a lot of the time.

Also, it looked toward the end of the video that one deputy was working up to an arrest when he said "Back away from me" over and over.

Good luck to her in the lawsuit, I think she's got a good shot at winning.

3. It does appear that they searched her home
Without probable cause and without her consent or a warrant. I am sure this kind of thing happens all the time everyday but this time there was a camera. She sounds kind of nutty but any of us probably would under the circumstances. I wonder what all that stuff pasted all over the door was or what that paper was she tried to force on the deputy?

4. This is a bail enforcement situation and different rules do apply.
Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 08:32 PM by pnwmom
I'd assume that when you agree to accept bail you also agree to let the bail enforcers into your house. So the question is, what are the laws in that locale and did whoever they were looking for live in that house?

Also, this woman tried to claim that she isn't subject to Federal law -- that she is her OWN sovereign nation. And she tried to serve her own papers on them.

There's more to this than we can tell from this clip.

5. The authority of bail enforcers depends on the state. In this case? They are in the wrong.
This is clearly not the house that belongs to the fugitive. Even in states where BEA can come in, without a warrant, it has to be the FUGITIVE'S house, not someone else's. She can have them arrested for trespassing, and if I were her, I would.

7. They have to witness the subject inter
the home. No subject, no defense on their part in court. Fat butt deputy can kiss it good bye.

10. She sounded like a nut to me. And why did she have a camera ready to go like that?
Anyone who thinks this tape is the whole story wants to assume what they want to assume.

12. You don't have to just rely on the tape, you can go to the link provided
Sheriff's department is launching an internal investigation on the matter. And they weren't even after HER, they were after someone else who lives in the house, so your implication that she's guilty of something is moronic.

13. So I should believe that she isn't 'subject to federal law,' that she is her own 'sovereign nation?'
I'll try that on the IRS in a few days.

I'm not saying that the cops didn't do something wrong. I'm saying that this isn't the whole story.

14. Yeah, I was with her ...
until she said that because it made her sound a bit whacko. LOL! Anyhoo, I'd like to have seen how they entered the back door of her home, though, because she surely didn't invite them in.

15. It looked to me, from the videotape, that she DID let them in the front door.
Even though afterwards, she kept saying she hadn't.

23. Wow
If the police were banging on my door and when I opened it they pushed their way in, I would be very upset and might say something very nutty. If you were being violated would you like to be judged by what you said at the time? It doesn't matter what she said...it's what they did that is the problem.

I believe in your own home you have the right to have cameras ready to go.

11. From the article link provided:
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 04:48 AM by Clintonista2
There were also sheriff's deputies at the front door. Deputies and bail bond enforcement officials have different laws but a local bail bondsman not affiliate with this case said what happened in this case was against the law.

"If you see the person go in, you can go in," Glenn Pierce, the owner of Gotta Go Bail Bonds said. "But you just can't go in randomly."

If you don't have freedom and liberty inside your own home then where do you have it?
There are people who think the cops were right do do this and have unrecommended this thread.

17. Unrec doesn't have to mean disagreement!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:wtf:

The amount of recs either puts a thread on the greatest page or keeps it off. The "greatest" page. So it makes no difference where one agrees with the topic or not, it only matters whether or not they think it merits an appearance on the "greatest" page.

I can wholeheartedly agree with this thread and still unrec it if I feel it isn't the most important topic around and that it doesn't deserve to be on the greatest page.

People.... really.... it's just a rec/unrec. Who cares so much that it has to be commented on in every damn thread???

21. I don't get you either
I believe if someone thinks the police have the right to do whatever they like then they would want to unrec this thread. To unrec means they'd prefer people NOT to see just what bastards the police can be when they think they can get away with it. I recommended this thread because I wanted this kind of bullshit exposed and not to sink away into the 'gone and forgotten' pile too quick. Just the way I look at things I guess. WTF back at you.

9. When they were knocking they did not announce
they were police, they would have busted in that door without announcing POLICE.

18. Just heard about this on Thom Hartmann
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 12:02 PM by florida08
After seeing the whole episode it does appear they violated her rights. They should have announced who they were and stated why they were there. She didn't invite them in by simply opening the door and she never invited them in. They used the intimidation of their badge to enter. Her attitude may not have helped but it was clear she was scared.

"Attorney H.A. Sala says based on the video evidence, the Sheriff's Department could have a lawsuit on its hands because of the way they forced into the home without any knowledge of the wanted person being in the home. "They have to knock, state a purpose, say they have a warrant and give time for the person to surrender," Sala said.

This is not what happened..and banging on her door at 6 a.m the way they did is enough to scare the hell out of anyone. They should be suspended without pay.
