1. They are kindred spirits.
In case you haven't noticed, Obama is mighty corporate himself.

2. Just an observation Northerner
but I notice you always post the TYT clips that are critical of the Obama Admin and Dems in Congress.

21. Seems TYT has become...
almost all Obama bashing almost all the time.

It's tiresome. I know my viewing is only a fraction of what it once was.

22. 2 Things
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 01:11 PM by ihavenobias
1. It's not "bashing". It's criticism. Bashing is what Fox News does when they go after how Obama eats his burger, how he bows to foreign leaders and how he's a communist/socialist/radical (all things Cenk has defended him against, and I have the clips to prove it).

2. He's much harsher on the Republicans, and he gives the disclaimer often that it's obviously better to have Obama than McCain. You can argue that's damning with faint praise, but you can't call it "bashing". Well, you can, but it would be an inaccurate description.

When Bush was in power the right would accuse the left of always "bashing" and "hating" Bush. I would respond in the same way, i.e. it's not bashing, it's looking at the facts of the situation and pointing out why his actions are wrong. And I would add that of course we criticized Bush and the Republicans all the time, they were the ones in power! Criticizing the Dems the same amount at that time would've been like criticizing the the bench players of a team rather than the starters.

Now the roles are reversed and the Dems are in control. Ignoring that fact would be require a level of hypocrisy I'm not prepared to accept.

23. Whatever you call it...
it drones on and on and rarely provides any insight other that "Obama's a corporate shill" or similar sentiment.

As if dismantling America's corporatocracy could be done with the wave of a hand.

Cenk (and others, including Kos) set this up by repeating over and over and over that "there's no excuse now, Democrats have 60 votes in the Senate". As if Lieberman, Lincoln, Nelson, Landrieu et al were some kind of sure thing. Then when one of the above inevitably screws the Democrats over TYT can jump to the "Obama is a failure" or "Obama is a corporate shill" meme and celebrate their purity. Cenk's previous narrative: "Democrats are in complete control"; was never reality and neither is his current narrative: "Obama is a corporate sell-out".

It's either naive or cynical. If cynical, then in the interest of attracting more eyeballs to TYT. In my case, it has had the opposite effect.

Of course many people don't realize it's a 3 hour show, and there's plenty of nuanced discussion (and a whole new channel just for long, http://www.youtube.com/user/TYTInterviews|substantive interviews> with Congressmen, authors, journalists, reporters, activists, etc.) that isn't always shown in the 2-8 clips that are chopped out for the main YouTube channel. There are countless interviews discussing the impact of politicians needing so much money to run for office, and also the implicit bribe of retiring to the private sector after deregulating a particular industry, etc. That's a systemic bipartisan issue, one that we shouldn't ignore just because someone has a D next to their name. That's not some grand conspiracy, it goes right to the heart of the corruption of our entire political process.

The bottom line is that some confuse discussion of these issues as well as pressure and criticism with mindless bashing, a "circular firing squad" or as one DUer put it 'droning on and on while rarely providing insight'. It was terrible when Republicans did it for 8 years under Bush and R's in Congress, and it's terrible now when Democrats do it under Obama and Dems in Congress.

This website has all of the facts I need to support my argument. Feel free to challenge it: http://www.opensecrets.org/

26. Not sure what you're getting at here.
Since getting rid of the corporatocracy is hard, we shouldn't talk about it?

If Obama actually *is* a corporate shill, we should just pretend otherwise? Even if the evidence completely backs up that perception? What's the point of that?

What I see on TYT is analysis backed up by hard facts. Is the problem that you're not seeing the facts they present, or that you don't like the facts they present?

6. I agree with Cenk that he's a good opponent
People know where he stands and he's well liked

However, I would expect the White House to support her.
They have supported every incumbent -- Specter, Gillibrand, etc Why should Lincoln be treated any differently

everyone has a price and everyone sells out. There are no principles or values that can't be overridden with a few bucks. Just feelin' especially cynical tonight.

There's a wide range between dissing and strongly endorsing. As Cenk points out, this would be a great time to pressure Lincoln into voting the right way on some key issues (see healthcare reform), assuming she wants strong support as opposed to simply not being dissed or getting a half-hearted endorsement.

If we could count on her votes in the first place this wouldn't be an issue (but we can't).

17. Hey, Sling..........
I think you are one of the most convincing posters here at DU. Keep up the good work. I, for one, do not see how any poster at DU can find much redeeming about Barack Obama at all. He got took my money; he took my time; he took my hope--and squandered them all. I will never refer to him as President again.

18. I am very disillusioned as well. After all that time and money and effort
we get this kind of behavior, instead of a man like Franken or Grasyson!!!

THAT's the kind of man I thought Obama would be, not some Caspar Milquetoast when it comes to principles and standing up for the people that put him in the White House.

Oh, I know, I know, he's better than the alternative, but not by much anymore.
