The Nazis Invade the Ukraine

How anyone can understand the emotion behind a simple display such as this -- or better, know and understand the realities of Nazism -- and then compare any American politician or political party to the Hitlerites is beyond my ability to fathom. . .

2. the audience's tears--especially those who were way too young

to remember more than the accounts of their grandparents/great grandparents, was what I found so incredibly poignant. Do you think if 911 had happened 85 years ago, our youth would have the same appreciation of history and it would evoke the same response? Perhaps, but I'm not confident.

3. Probably not, but then, we have to remember, when the Nazis invaded. . .
the Soviets evacuated everything -- dismantled factories and hospitals, displaced entire populations, uprooted life itself -- then moved it all 2,000 miles, to beyond the Urals, and scorched the very earth behind them to deny the Nazis everything they could conceivably use. Only then, when all was destroyed, did they stop, throw up armaments factories as they could, and turn to fight. Four years, twenty million and more dead later . . . it's hard to imagine what they survived let alone what they accomplished, or how deep the scars run within their collective psyche.

It is but a part of why I never engage in such lightheaded hyperbole as comparing anything in the world today to Nazism. Those who contested it deserve far greater respect than that.
