Bayh refuses to name anonymous members of his new Blue-Dog style coalition.

This morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) officially announced the creation of his new Blue-Dog style coalition of approximately 15 “moderate” Democratic senators. As Roll Call explained last week, members of the group “acknowledge that they are seeking to restrain the influence of party liberals.” During his announcement, host Joe Scarborough asked Bayh who is in the new coalition. Bayh said that while a press release on the group’s creation included the names of 12 senators, there are “three or four” who don’t want to be identified:

SCARBOROUGH: This is great! Can you tell us who’s in it?

BAYH: Well there are about 12 of us on the press release and then there are three or four who we are putting in the witness protection program, who attend our meetings but don’t want to be publicly identified yet.

Explaining the likely rational for senators not wanting to be publicly associated with Bayh’s new group, Matt Yglesias writes, “After all, Barack Obama is popular! And his agenda is popular! So if you choose to oppose it, you might face political problems. So better to keep the sabotage secret.”

16. Ironically, Bayh is an idiot - now the press has a mission to find out who these 'secret' folks are
HAHAHA - they are going to be trailed to every meeting and photos will be shot of all events where Bayh and any number of the group get together -to see who is playing the game with them. He basically is going to scare these 'witness protection' folks back into the woods.

Not the brightest bulb in the tree, that Bayh

I wish the people of Indiana would replace his ass with a progressive. I know that's unlikely but it would sure shake that coalition up.

5. Democrats won the 2008 election. I believe
all we need at the moment is Al Franken so we have 60 senators and Bayh comes out with this crap. I think he is deliberately becoming a troublemaker in order to run for pres. next election. Well, ego rules forever.

8. And look which Dems are doing it
This betrayal is not coming from the left....this is coming from our continuously Republican-loving right wing. It is time to get rid of them because apparently they have no intentions of ever letting anyone but republicans rule.

7. This is just the DLC rebranding themselves
You can call these groups any name you want, but we already know who the players are.

Why do we tolerate people in the party who's only goals is to stifle liberals and make o8ur party's agenda ineffective? With moles in the party, it is no surprise we rarely get anything done. They damage our reputations as a party and then have the nerve to tell us they are the "electable" ones.

Hey assholes, if you have to HIDE who you are, you are not "electable". You are just assholes trying to continue Republican rule even when the republicans are out of power.

I hate the DLC and all they stand for....fucking turncoats.

9. Joe Scarborough's glee showcases that these Dems...
...are a bunch of neocon, corporatist scuzzballs.

We knew all along that we had this cancer within our party. It's good that they are
identifying themselves, so we can target them and work to get them replaced by
good Progressives.

My guess is that the cabal that has its talons in our democracy--has decided to
threaten Obama with a crush of Republicans--and now these Dems--if he dares to
threaten their power or if he goes too Progressive on them.

The neocons made great strides in the past eight years. They also managed to
corrupt just about every corner of our democracy--and enrich themselves by
kow towing to corporate America.

They're not going to give up power so easily. These Republican and Democratic
neocons will scheme against anyone who threatens their power.

Bayh is a smarmy little nit.

15. Just keep your nose up and push forward!!
We all knew that the Democrats are a mix of everything from very progressive to repugs-in-dem-clothing. No surprise. The Democratic party has ALWAYS had trouble keeping their members on the same page, so this is and was to be expected.

What President Obama and the REAL Democratic Party politicians that are responding to the American voice need to do is just GO FORWARD! If they have chicken-shit farm boys that are afraid of "sucking some tit" or some other nonsense, IGNORE the bastards. Move forward America.

We will not get a chance like this again to right this ship and put this country back in balance. And you know it isn't going to all be smooth sailing, so damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead. Let's not let 41 lyings sons-of-bitches repugs and 10 or 15 chicken-shit "democrats" stop this country from pulling it's head out of the corporate ass.

It's do or die folks!!

Conservative Democrat let's just break it down it's bought and paid democrat and quite proud of it too. Well, exit stage right please. If I were a blue dog I wouldn't be bragging about it right now. It clearly isn't the way to poltical longevity. They are on our team and we can work with that and that's fine if they work with the party but if they intend to hold things back, it time to say bub bye at the ballot box.

20. I hope you're right, but Bayh was a potential VP pick for Obama
so I would have to assume Obama shares some measure of politics with Bayh. Obama never defined what he meant by "New Democrat", and with this announcement from Bayh coming on the heels of Obamas declaration,I kind of thought maybe the two were connected in some way.

23. 1st we have the blue dogs & now we have the "pub" dogs - "repub" that is.
My previous Senator in Florida, Bill Nelson, is one of them. Chris Matthews just named them and MSNBC has this listing:

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/03/18/bayhs-four-secret-sens/

In addition to Bayh, Sens. Tom Carper (D-DE)& Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) will lead the group.

Other members include:
Sens. Mark Udall (D-CO),
Michael Bennet (D-CO),
Mark Begich (D-AK),
Kay Hagan (D-NC),
Herb Kohl (D-WI),
Mary Landrieu (D-LA),
Joe Lieberman (I-CT),
Claire McCaskill (D-MO),
Ben Nelson (D-NE),
Bill Nelson (D-FL),
Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH),
and Mark Warner (D-VA).

But Bayh also told MSNBC this morning that there are “three or four” members in what he called the “Witness Protection Program.” These members, Bayh explained, are currently attending the group’s meetings but do not wish to be “publicly identified.” Based on press reports, however, ThinkProgress has compiled a list of who might be the three anonymous “moderates.” The following members have been reported as attending Bayh’s meetings in recent weeks, but are not named in today’s press release:

– Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr. (D-PA)
– Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN)
– Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR)
