From CBS News with Walter Cronkite in 1972.

"George Bush is often compared to Richard Nixon, and we find a connection with Karl Rove. This video of Dan Rather reporting on The Committee to Reelect The President shows a young Karl Rove as a GOP College Director just over four minutes into the story. I wonder if Karl was responsible for my favorite Nixon re-election campaign slogan: 'Don’t Change Dicks In The Middle Of A Screw – Re-elect Nixon in ‘72.'" - Ron Chusid http://liberalvaluesblog.com

2. He seemed so benign talking about the '72 youth vote
He's just going to join Mitchell and Haldeman in the slammer 35 years later.

I feel dirty. Ironic to me, his crack about 35 year olds. I got cold chills...
Why do things never seem to change?

9. I went to Viet Nam two months later
3/12/72

Things never do change.

How come Rove got to hang out in DC with big sideburns and I had to go drain diarrhea out of my bloused pant legs?

Well, I bet that's a skill I have on him, anyway.

11. Not for long, hopefully!
I've heard that prison is not much fun. (NOT to compare with what you went through, of course.) Wouldn't that be the greatest day EVER!

14. He'll never end up in the pokey
People like Rove never get the "justice" they truly deserve.

BTW, I watched "All the President's Men" on AMC today-did the Rovester invent the word "ratfucking", or did he just take it to a new level?

4. Good Show...
This is amazing video, back when journalism meant something! And it's amazing that Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite are still alive and working (at least part-time).

6. Karl Rove, from the beginning, his job has been to "make fun" of those who disagree.
From the beginning, he has presumed he knows more than anyone. There was a definite tone of arrogance in his interview, but for his age that's not unusual in someone who's trying to project self-confidence.

Rove was once a nice-looking young man. Looks like his character caught up with his face. He really does resemble a biped porcine now.

7. OMG! Can you believe how intelligent the reporting was back then!
Newscasters today look like clowns working kid's parties by comparison.

Karl is quite the success story, ain't he?

12. It was a great era for reporting
Dan Rather was White House correspondent for CBS and Tom Brokaw was his counterpart at NBC. They really did investigate and hammer Nixon for what was going on, in contrast to today's media which acts like lap dogs. Plus, Fox News did not exist. The right wing complained about the liberal bias of the news media, and there was a grain of truth to it. Of course liberal bias really meant they would challenge authority.

Besides this Rather video linked here, I have a sadder video up at Liberal Values for comparison:

http://liberalvaluesblog.com/?p=1294

It shows how the current reporters are clueless as to the signficance of the prosecutor firings and the role of Congress to exercise oversight over the executive branch.
