It has been a long time since there has been a major political convention in Denver. 100 years. In 1908, the country was still getting used to a new century, and just emerging as a world power.

In 1908, the up and coming city of Denver courted both parties to be the site of their conventions. It was the Democrats who took the offer. The city offered them $100,000 and free rent of the brand new city auditorium.

The candidate was William Jennings Bryan from Nebraska, making his third run for the White House. Bryan was nominated on the first ballot, but was not there and accepted over the telephone. 1908 was his last campaign. He lost to William Howard Taft.
