I had seen this speech, so I was expecting at least one no vote on the resolution today, but I couldn't remember the guy's name making the speech. Here is his speech about why he would vote no.

3. We had compared notes before too, didn't we?
I knew someone else saw that speech too. I don't remember Taylor or his speech at all.

8. Yeah, I think we did compare notes before.
I was glad that I wasn't alone in seeing that speech
These were some emotional days of C-SPAN watching, weren't they? I don't think I saw Gene Taylor's speech. I'm sad that he was the other one- I knew that he was conservative, but had seen him post- katrina- and his oratory skills were great on the floor. I liked what I saw then... but now I see why other DUers have, at different times, expressed less-than- positive opinions about Gene Taylor.

9. Was that Gene Taylor
I remember his impassioned speeches about his people after Katrina too. Could he still be trying to make a deal for his district, so as not to upset the master and get a crumb or two? Just like Landrue, they think playing nice will make the difference, but it won't. Time for nice has long since past.

2. "Sitting on the sidelines and booing..."
Well Mr. Marshall, I guess that whatever Bush does with the troops will be ok with you then. You wouldn't want to boo. Can't discourage those troops! Ooorah!

5. I have always been a bit disappointed with him - I live about 2 miles away
from the line of being in his district and my county splits between his and John Linder's (you know, Mr. Fair Tax :puke: )

His was one of the two seats that the national GOP tried desperately to win this past November and it's difficult for him - he has an extremely conservative district. So much so that I was quite surprised that he won in the first place, much less winning re-election last year.

He also has a very large air force base in his district and they consistently lobby him on these type of votes.

I also just spoke with him on January 27th at the DPG officer elections about Iraq and asked him to support measures removing our troops from Iraq and cutting off funding for the war. He was very agreeable to it as he is pretty moderate on most issues, downright liberal on others. But unfortunately, he is a good congresscritter and does what his district tells him to do.
