This segment was from a broadcast that aired a week before the 1960 election. The pre-Cronkite anchorman is Robert Trout (sort of forgotten, but a legend at the time.)

In some way, this clip could be played today:

Nixon calls off negotiation for a 5th television debate and demands that JFK give him an apology.

JFK claims that Republicans believe that the American people are "gullible & incompetent" and they are unwilling to trust the American people with the facts.

No tape of the two saying this was available, but there was tape of Dwight Eisenhower speaking to a group of Republicans and using the old smear-by-association tactic.
