The question is:- When will it become more rational?
My experience of misunderstanding was way back in 1984.
I hadn't even entered the US proper. I was waiting to collect my luggage
in South San Francisco airport before being checked in.
It was a long flight from Hong Kong and I had had no real sleep for about 20 hours.
A large black guy (who I thought was some sort of porter) approached and said something
in black americanese. I thought the thrust was that he wanted to carry my bags.
I waved him away saying it was OK, I could manage.
This did not go down well as apparently he was wanting to pre-check some luggage we had.
Fortunately my business partner was able to understand what he wanted and assured him he
was welcome to have a look. The whole thing blew over at that point. Close call.
This experience primed me for the stay. Which was very pleasant by the way.
