Workers Doing Work For GM Take Strike Vote At Lake Orion Plant

By Doug Cunningham

About 125 workers at GM’s Lake Orion plant took a strike vote Wednesday. Results are expected as soon as today after members have been notified of the results. The workers reportedly make less than $10 an hour working for a company called LINC Logistics doing parts logistics for GM inside the plant. The workers signed union cards to join UAW Local 5960 but have yet to reach a contract agreement. UAW Local 5960 President Pat Sweeney says the union is fighting for a living wage for the workers. The roughly $20,000 these workers earn annually is below the federal poverty line for a family of four. GM is launching the Chevy Sonic this summer at the plant – the only subcompact to be made in the U.S.

1. These kind of jobs are what has been trumpeted
in other threads as many of the jobs "saved" by bailing out the auto industry.

Somehow, I'm not terribly impressed.

I hope these workers are able to be successful in their collective bargaining efforts and able to earn a living wage.
