February 21

February 21, 1936 - Barbara Jordan, "a true champion for all the people," was born. A lawyer, educator and fiery orator, Jordan drew national attention when, as a member of Congress, she served on the Judiciary Committee that recommended the impeachment of President Nixon. She was a tireless ally of the poor and disadvantaged, sponsoring both the Workman's Compensation Act, which increased benefits to injured workers, and legislation extending the Voting Rights Act to include Mexican-Americans and other people of color. 3. From the Fifth Ward of Houston
My partner made a biographical CD-ROM about her many years ago. We got footage from the local CBS affiliate and footage of her funeral at Good Hope MBC.

She truly was the Voice of God.

I thought that her church would have moral people in it, that were like her.

The pastor was greedy and wouldn't help us sell the CD as a fundraiser to start a community center in Barbara Jordan's name.

Well, he didn't want us to make any money on it. He was greedy. He is still greedy.

I decided to leave that church. Because if God works through his people, and if they wouldn't help me find a job, then I decided that God wants me to starve to death.

And before you xtians complain:I don't have time to go to EVERY CHURCH OUT THERE and ask them if they could employ me. I won't live that long. I didn't want welfare, I wanted a job.

Drove me into atheism and severe depression. This was back in 1996 when she died.
